Description of Work The primary purpose of this position is to serve as the Communicable Disease and Tuberculosis (TB) Control Nurse Coordinator. The key responsibilities include: Coordinating and implementing Communicable Disease and TB control programs in compliance with state and local guidelines. Providing Directly Observed Therapy (DOT) to clients receiving treatment for active tuberculosis. Conducting case investigations, contact tracing, and outbreak response activities as part of the agency’s epidemiology (EPI) team. Ensuring accurate and timely data entry into the North Carolina Electronic Disease Surveillance System (NC EDSS) for reportable diseases. Educate clients and the community on communicable disease prevention, treatment adherence, and health promotion. Collaborate with local healthcare providers, labs, and public health partners. In addition to communicable disease responsibilities, this position delivers clinical services and support across Women’s Health, Primary Care, and General Clinics as needed. Minimum Education and Experience Requirements Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B.S. in Nursing which includes a Public Health Nursing rotation and two years of Public Health nursing experience; OR Master’s degree in public health and graduation from a school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience; OR Graduation from a school of professional nursing and three years of professional nursing experience including two years of Public Health nursing experience; OR An equivalent combination of training and experience. License and Certification Requirements A current license to practice as a Registered Nurse in North Carolina by the NC Board of Nursing; Current CPR certification; Valid driver’s license. Knowledge and Skill Requirements Thorough knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practice, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs For employees in expanded role positions, considerable knowledge of, and skill in obtaining a health history and performing physical examinations sufficient enough to determine if there is any deviation from normal Considerable knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed General knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health, including health disparities Ability to plan, coordinate, and oversee the work of others Ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and make decisions Ability to work in partnership with patients and with other service providers to elicit needed information and to maintain effective working relationships Ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions Considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health Adequate computer skills to allow communication, patient record documentation, and accessing of information Local Government Employee’s Retirement System County matches up to 5% of an employee’s annual salary to 401K Longevity 5-year interval percentage increase to base salary Pre-employment
