Animal Care Technician (Weekend/Part time) Science is a clinical stage, vertically integrated technology company focused on solving neuroscience’s hardest questions and unmet medical needs. We support progress across the industry through Science Foundry. We are looking for a talented Animal Care Technician with large animal experience and availability to work on weekends to join our world-class research team. This position focuses on providing exceptional daily care, welfare, and husbandry for research animals while supporting our growing program. The successful candidate will ensure the highest standards of animal health and well-being, working closely with veterinary staff and research teams. This role offers opportunities for professional growth in animal care and husbandry practices. Responsibilities
Perform routine animal husbandry tasks including feeding, cleaning, and health monitoring per approved guidelines, SOPs, and regulations. Maintain comprehensive documentation including animal identification cards, inventory records, environment reports, enrichment logs, and equipment cleaning and sterilization records. Assist with animal handling, restraint, and basic veterinary procedures. Ensure optimal animal care environments through facility maintenance, including thorough cleaning and disinfection of surfaces at prescribed intervals following facility SOPs. Provide humane care and maintenance for multiple animal species. Qualifications
Proven experience working with large animals (livestock, research animals, or similar). Strong understanding of animal behavior, husbandry, and welfare principles. Working knowledge of hygienic principles and animal husbandry practices. Familiarity with federal regulations (AWA, PHS Policy, USDA, OSHA). Understanding of "Guide for the Care and Use of Laboratory Animals" principles. Availability to work weekends and participate in on-call rotations. Ability to understand and follow facility Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Proficiency in reading English and numerical data for instructions, record-keeping, and animal identification. Excellent observational skills and attention to detail. Basic computer skills for database entry. Ability to work in an animal research environment requiring continuous contact with animals. Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds and to maneuver 500-pound cage racks. Preferred Qualifications
AALAS certification (ALAT, LAT, or LATG). Experience in research or laboratory animal care settings. Knowledge of animal research regulations and compliance requirements. Salary and Benefits
The base salary range for this position is $30-$40 per hour annually, plus equity and benefits. Final compensation is determined based on interview performance and factors such as skills, experience, and training. Equity is separate from the base pay.
