Overview
Cardiovascular Sonographer III is responsible for the independent operation of sonographic equipment and for performing and communicating results of diagnostic examinations using sonography. This role includes daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, managing patient schedules, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment failures, and quality assessment. The position maintains high medical ethics and seeks to increase knowledge of the field as procedures evolve. Responsibilities
Performs exams including abdominal, renal, aorta, thyroid, pelvic, obstetrical, bio-physical profiles, vascular studies, testicular and breast imaging, and 2-D and/or 3-D echocardiograms, transesophageal echocardiograms (TEE), stress echo, carotid, arterial, venous, and aorta imaging, plus color flow, Doppler, biopsies and fluid collections as department permits. Performs ordered exams with appropriate indications, patient history, and physician instructions. Reviews patient charts and communicates with the radiologist to ensure proper examinations and diagnostic results. Acquires representative anatomical images, verifies required images per protocols, recognizes normal versus abnormal anatomy, understands key pathologies, and completes the sonographer report. Analyzes ultrasound images and medical history, and communicates findings to the physician/provider; provides written, unofficial reports of examinations. Quality controls images and consults with the radiologist about readings and reports. Maintains daily documentation of procedures in the ultrasound logbook (patient name, date of birth, hospital ID, requesting physician, location, exam type, initials, equipment used). Available for on-call status rotations. Maintains knowledge, licensure, and certifications; keeps ultrasound rooms stocked and prepared for procedures (linen, gel, gloves, supplies). Uses high-level disinfection per manufacturer guidelines and reports any equipment malfunctions. Performs general clerical duties as needed. Qualifications
Cardiovascular Sonographer I
Minimum Education Technical Diploma/Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field required Minimum Work Experience 0-1 year Sonographer experience preferred Licenses and Certifications BLS for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association) required upon hire; RDCS in Echocardiography or RCS_CCI in Echocardiography within 18 months; or RVS_CCI in Vascular or RVT in Vascular within 2 years required Cardiovascular Sonographer II
Minimum Education Technical Diploma/Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field required Minimum Work Experience 1-3 years Sonographer experience preferred Licenses and Certifications BLS required; one of RDCS or RCS in Echocardiography within 18 months or RDCS/RCS or RVT/RVS combinations as described; timeframes apply for advancement Cardiovascular Sonographer III
Minimum Education Technical Diploma/Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field required Minimum Work Experience 1-3 years experience in either echo or vascular ultrasound preferred Licenses and Certifications BLS required; RDCS or RCS in Echocardiography, or RVT/RVS in Vascular, with hire conditions as outlined Required Skills, Knowledge And Abilities
