Cardiovascular Sonographer III - Non-Invasive Cardiology, Full-time, Days, Baptist Hospital This position supports independent operation of sonographic equipment and performance and communication of diagnostic ultrasound results. The Sonographer III manages daily operations of the sonographic laboratory, patient scheduling, equipment maintenance, reporting equipment issues, and quality assessment. The role maintains high ethical standards and seeks to increase knowledge of the field, diseases, and evolving procedures.

Responsibilities

Perform exams such as abdominal, renal, aorta, thyroid, pelvic, obstetrical, fetal biophysical profiles, vascular studies, testicular, breast, and 2-D and/or 3-D echocardiograms (including transesophageal echocardiograms, stress echo, carotid, arterial, venous, aorta) as assigned. Include color flow and Doppler studies, biopsies, and management of localized fluid collections.

Perform ordered exams according to physician orders and appropriate indications, considering patient history and other pertinent information.

Review patient charts and requests with the radiologist as needed to ensure proper examinations and diagnostic results.

Acquire representative anatomical images, verify required images per protocols, recognize normal versus abnormal anatomy, understand various pathologies, and complete the sonographer report.

Analyze ultrasound findings in conjunction with patient history and communicate results to the appropriate physician/provider; provide written, unofficial reports of examinations.

Quality control all images; consult with radiologist regarding readings and reports.

Maintain daily documentation of procedures in the ultrasound log (patient name, date of birth, hospital ID, requesting physician, patient location, exam type, initials, equipment used).

Be available for on-call status rotations as required.

Maintain knowledge, licensure, and certifications required for the role.

Mark images for proper definition and explanation.

Use and maintain high-level disinfectants according to manufacturer guidelines.

Report malfunctions and coordinate with service personnel as needed.

Perform general clerical duties and maintain ultrasound rooms for efficiency, including stocking with linen, gel, gloves, and supplies.

Assist in other duties as assigned to support department and organizational operations.

May be required to remain on campus before, during, and after severe weather or disasters.

Qualifications Minimum Education

Technical Diploma/Certificate in Diagnostic Medical Sonography or related field required

Minimum Work Experience

1-3 years experience in either echo or vascular ultrasound preferred

Licenses and Certifications

BLS for Healthcare Providers (American Heart Association) required upon hire

RDCS (Echocardiography) or RCS_CCI (Echocardiography) required upon hire

RVT (Vascular) or RVS_CCI (Vascular) required upon hire

Required Skills, Knowledge And Abilities

Demonstrate knowledge and ability to perform competencies listed by the department

Ability to multi-task daily

Knowledge of filing systems, telephone etiquette and customer service

Computer skills
