University of Iowa Health Care Department of Nursing is seeking a Staff Nurse to perform patient care under the direct supervision of the Nurse Manager in the Geriatric Psychiatry unit.
Unit : John Pappajohn Pavilion (2 JPE) – 14-bed inpatient unit for geriatric and adult psychiatric services. Population includes dementia, depression, anxiety, Parkinsons, and Huntingtons. Services include medication management, assistance with daily activities, occupational therapy, recreational therapy, and electroconvulsive therapy.
Characteristic Duties :
Applies nursing theory to the assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and evaluation of patient responses to health and illness
Assesses patient health care preferences and expectations
Collaboratively coordinates the continuum of care across settings
Develops patient care plan based on patient condition, age, and psychosocial factors
Implements patient care plan according to priorities; documents interventions and patient/family response
Collaborates with patients and families in the multidisciplinary care plan
Coordinates transfer/discharge planning throughout the episode of care
Implements nursing interventions according to unit policies and safety procedures
Percent of Time : 70% - 80% (28 - 32 hours per week)
Schedule : Monday-Thursday, 2300-0730
Education Required :
An Associate’s Degree in Nursing, Diploma in Nursing, Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing, Professional Masters of Nursing and Healthcare Practice (MNHP), MSN/Clinical Nurse Leader, or a Master’s Degree in Nursing (MSN, MA) is required
Experience Requirements :
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills with patients/families, nursing staff, and interdisciplinary team members
General computer skills
Current license to practice nursing in Iowa is required by date of hire
Desirable Qualifications :
Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing or Master’s Degree in Nursing is highly desired
Active enrollment in a BSN program is desirable if the BSN is not yet obtained
Previous RN experience in a Psychiatric Hospital Unit
