Heart Cath Lab The mission of the Heart Catheterization Laboratory is to provide comprehensive, quality care for individuals requiring emergency and non-emergency cardiovascular procedures. The laboratory offers diagnostic and interventional coronary procedures, diagnostic and interventional electrophysiology procedures, cardiac device implant procedures, and diagnostic and interventional peripheral vascular procedures. Procedures are performed in two electrophysiology rooms, three heart cath labs, one peripheral vascular lab, and a hybrid operating room as part of the Parkwest Heart Cath Lab. Staff members are expected to learn all roles within their scope of practice to allow for greater staffing flexibility and enhanced productivity. Our team includes cardiologists, electrophysiologists, cardiothoracic and vascular surgeons working with highly trained RNs, RTs, and RCIS to deliver quality patient care. Our team works Monday – Friday with call teams on weekends and holidays. We offer shifts including five 8-hour days, four 10-hour days, or three 12-hour shifts with on-call required. Position Summary Provides nursing services to Cardiac Catheterization Lab patients in accordance with established nursing standards and practices; sets up electrical and hemodynamic transducers and amplifiers; records and obtains hemodynamic, electrical, and angiographic data; assesses patients during invasive cardiac procedures; and delivers therapy as required. Coordinates patient care with other health care professionals. Recruiter : Angelica Adams || Apply@covhlth.com Responsibilities Prepares patient and equipment for catheterization procedures by preparing site of entry, draping patient, arranging sterilized instruments and catheters, and calibrating and setting-up pressure transducers and tubing. Obtains and records hemodynamic, electrical, and angiographic data by operating hemodynamic and electrical amplifiers and digital and line fluoroscopic equipment. Attends to patient needs during cardiac studies. Develops and contributes to a plan of nursing care for the patient. Administers intravenous and oral medications to patients. Assists in the collection of arterial and venous blood samples and respiratory gases. Precepts and trains new employees and students in the techniques of cardiac catheterization and electrophysiology. Monitors patient vital signs during and after cardiovascular procedures. Participates in life-saving measures such as defibrillation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Completes nursing history if appropriate. Assesses learning needs of patient and family and develops and initiates teaching plan. Collaborates with interdisciplinary team members. Resolves problems regarding less complex issues without oversight or supervision. Responds appropriately and timely to patients, physicians, and other customers needs. Assists with identification of Department or Health system education needs and provides 2-3 hours of in-service education annually. Participates on unit-based committee/serves as council representatives with 75% participation. Functions as a role model to peers by cross-training to other departments and serving as a resource person. Completes department-specific checklist and any additional requirements as needed. Follows policies, procedures, and safety standards. Completes required education assignments annually. Works toward achieving goals and objectives, and participates in quality improvement initiatives as requested. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications Minimum Education None specified; however, must be sufficient to meet the standards for achievement of the below indicated license and/or certification as required by the issuing authority. Minimum Experience Minimum of eight (8) years Cath Lab experience or eight (8) years advanced cardiac experience and Registered Nurse; OR 1 year of Cath Lab experience plus 2 years as an RN. Licensure Requirement Valid RN license with State of Tennessee; CPR required.
