Veterinary Technician - Equine

NVA Equine . Chaparral Veterinary Medical Center is seeking an experienced equine technician to join our growing practice. This full-time surgical position involves a 4-day work week and after-hours surgical call every third week/weekend. As a 24-hour referral center for equine, night, weekday, and weekend treatments are part of the duties during surgical duty. Benefits after a 90-day probation include IRA, health insurance allowance, pet discounts, sick leave, vacation, holiday pay, and CE pay. Qualifications include 3-5 years of equine surgical experience. Job Duties Include, But Are Not Limited To:
Proper restraint of patients for examination and treatment. Equipment setup, troubleshooting, and breakdown both in-house and in the field. Transferring images to Efilm. Sterile joint prep, trotting horses in hand, lunging horses, setting catheters, and hanging fluids in the field. Laboratory Responsibilities:
Blood collection from various veins. Running lab samples including CBC, chemistry, fecal, fibrinogen, IgG, SAA, blood gas, PCV/TP, blood lactate, abdominal lactate, blood glucose. Submitting samples via Idexx Vet Connect, Global Vetlink, or handwritten forms. Sending out specialty tests and tissue samples. Patient Care:
Reading patient charts, performing treatments, drawing medications, setting up IV fluids, and calculating fluid rates. Monitoring hospitalized patients, recognizing abnormal parameters, and notifying veterinarians. Hospitalization, Treatment, and Surgery:
Charting SOAP notes, managing critical cases, triaging emergency patients. Preparing patients for surgery, assisting in surgeries, and post-operative monitoring. Cleaning and sterilizing surgical instruments, assisting with patient discharge, and being on call as assigned. Additional Responsibilities:
Maintaining professional appearance and attitude. Participating in staff meetings and continuing education. Experience with DVMaxx is a plus. Must have a valid driver’s license, pass background and drug screening. Details:
