Job Description
Responsible for performing routine sonographic exams in either an inpatient and/or outpatient setting in accordance with established protocols for positioning, image quality, and ALARA principles. Utilizes a variety of specialized equipment to produce sonographic images, as well as computers and various software programs to enter patient related information into hospital databases. Contributes to the overall excellence of the department through commitment to personal excellence in technical and interpersonal skills. Job Description

Utilizes a variety of specialized equipment to produce sonographic images, as well as computers and various software programs to enter patient related information into hospital databases. Contributes to the overall excellence of the department through commitment to personal excellence in technical and interpersonal skills.
Qualifications
Work requires the level of knowledge normally acquired through completion of two to three years of occupationally specific education beyond high school or an Associate's degree in Ultrasound technology or closely related field. ARDMS registration (American Registry of Diagnostic Sonographers Registration) required or CCI certificate (Cardiovascular Credentialing International Certificate) required within 12 months of hire. Requires the analytical ability to resolve problems that require the use of basic specific, mathematical, or technical principles and in depth experience based knowledge. Requires the ability to explain clinical, technical, and diagnostic procedures to patients and their families. Reporting Relationship: Supervisor/Manager/Assistant Director/Director of assigned department. Working Conditions: Works with equipment or performs procedures where carelessness would probably result in minor cuts, bruises or muscle pulls. Works in an area in which there is exposure to hazardous chemicals or carcinogenic agents which requires caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment. Works in an area in which there is exposure to radiation which requires caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment. Work requires exposure to blood and various body fluids which requires caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment. Work requires handling of hot liquids, toxic or flammable chemicals, or contaminated materials which requires caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment. Works in close proximity to high voltage electrical current and/or moving machinery, or with power tools and equipment (table saws, drills, etc.) which requires caution and use of established safety guidelines and equipment. Physical requirements: Lifting objects weighing up to 100 pounds Standing for more than two hours at a time Balancing, maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking on narrow surfaces Stooping or bending Manual dexterity, reach and grasp objects Color vision - the ability to identify and distinguish colors Ability to hear and communicate orally Pushing or pulling supply carts Proofreading and checking documents for accuracy Using a keyboard to enter and transcribe words or data Using a video display terminal to receive or audit information or data
