College/Department Information

Established in 2002, the Center for Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine (CBGM) at Augusta University promotes interdisciplinary and translational research in Biotechnology and Genomic Medicine to advance predictive, preventive, personalized and participatory (4P) medicine. The Center focuses on discovery and validation of biomarkers for disease prediction and diagnosis; pharmacomics and drug discovery for personalized medicine. CBGM includes programs in diabetes research and other areas with state-of-the-art facilities for genetics, genomics, proteomics, drug screening and bioinformatics.

Job Summary

Oversees and performs laboratory work related to studies in vision research. Maintains research records, communicates effectively with other laboratory members, and collaborates well within a team. Also assists with ordering supplies and maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

EXPERIMENTS: Communicate with patients, clinicians, and nurses at the clinic to obtain written informed consent from recruited subjects. Extract subject data from patient charts. Maintain all administrative binders and clinical databases. Ensure compliance with IRB requirements. Transport samples collected in the clinic to the lab and place them in -80°C freezers. Work closely with the PI, contributing to various aspects of the research project and playing an important role in the development and execution of the experiments. Data analysis and manuscript preparation may be involved.

MENTOR: Supervise junior members in the lab.

MANUSCRIPTS & GRANTS: Assist the PI with writing publications and grant applications.

OTHER: Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and experience in research, basic science or clinical laboratory particularly clinical trial research. OR Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in chemistry, biology, biochemistry, cell biology or other natural, life, health care or materials science directly related to the research area to which the position is assigned and a minimum of three years\' research and/or clinical experience.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

Proficient in Microsoft Office and other computer software/databases.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.

Ability to maintain confidentiality.

Shift/Salary/Benefits

Shift: Days; Monday - Friday (Work outside of normal business hours may be required)

Salary Range: $45,400 - $50,000 annually

Pay Band: B8 Salary to be commensurate with qualifications of the selected candidate within the established range (generally minimum-midpoint) of the position
