Responsibilities Responsible for quality patient care under the direction of a physician or licensed healthcare provider in a clinical practice.
Room patients, take vitals and health history, document in an electronic medical record, give injections and assist with minor procedures.
Maintain and review patient records, charts and pertinent information; communicate test and exam results and plan of care; develop patient education materials as necessary.
Maintain exam room supplies, instruments and cleanliness of the patient care environment according to OSHA, DHEC and UMA requirements.
Maintain timely patient flow; assist with scheduling of appointments and referrals based on urgency and availability; screen patients for appropriate information and provide patient education as appropriate for diagnosis and treatment.
Observe, record and report patient condition, reactions to medication and treatments to physician; respond to and triage phone calls; follow physician orders for medications and instructions regarding treatment and/or medication; monitor and distribute medications including samples and controlled substances.
Triages patients and prepares for physician exams and procedures; assist with exams, procedures and treatments; instruct patients in collection of samples and tests; administer prescribed treatments and tests as ordered by the physician.

CMA I Required Minimum Training and Education:
High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of an accredited medical assisting program with one year of patient care experience preferred. CMA Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:
Must be certified through one of the following nationally recognized bodies: AMT, AAMA, NHA, NAHP, MedCA, NCCT, or NAHP. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required. Physical Requirements:
Continuous requirements include standing, walking and sitting; ability to bend, kneel, climb stairs, reach in all directions, use hands and arms, and perform repetitive motions. Maintain 20/40 vision (corrected). Work in a latex-safe environment and indoors. Frequently lift, lower, push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50 lbs unassisted; exert up to 50 lbs of force; lift from 36 inches to overhead 25 lbs.
