As a Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA), you must ensure that the treatment plan is followed, perform interventions aimed at improving and enhancing the patient’s well-being, and evaluate patient’s progress. The PTA also assists the Physical Therapist in providing selected physical therapy services, including but not limited to treatment implementation and education to patients. The PTA works cooperatively with other team personnel in maintaining and enhancing the patient’s well-being and evaluates the patient’s progress. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High School degree required Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree recommended; AA in Kinesiology preferred Physical Therapist Assistant License (PTAL) CPR certification QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE: Comfortable using e-mail and interacting with Internet applications Experience with an EMR (NextGEN preferred) Working knowledge of practice management and word processing software Knowledge of medical terminology and Current Procedure Terminology (CPT) and ICD-10 codes Working knowledge of managed care basics Knowledge of anatomy Experience with physical therapy or sports medicine preferred Pleasant speaking voice and demeanor Neat, professional appearance Ability to multitask Strong desire to learn and grow in the field of Physical Therapy medicine or related practices RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice. Determines when the PT is available and confirms appointments to ensure patients are on time. Acts as an assistant to the Physical Therapist when the Physical Therapist is performing tests, evaluations, and complex procedures. Instruct patients, families, caregivers, and the health care team in the areas of therapy in which they can participate in assisting the patient. Gives appropriate treatment to patients per the Physical Therapist’s orders. Greets patients and escorts them from the waiting room to exam rooms and back to check-out after exam. Uses a variety of techniques, such as massage and stretching, to treat patients. Helps the patient in the use of therapeutic, creative, and self-care activities to improve functioning and safety. Educates patient on what to do after treatment. Cleans treatment areas and sets up therapy equipment. Abides by HIPAA laws regarding sharing of personal medical information. Addresses patient questions and concerns. Disposes of contaminated items according to OSHA guidelines. Performs and documents patient education. Cleans and closes sterilization equipment at the end of the day. Complies with governmental protocols to ensure the safety of patients and employees by using protective instruments and exercising safety measures.
