Responsibilities
Adhere to the laboratory’s procedures for the collection, processing, analysis, and reporting of patient test results.
Follow the laboratory’s established quality control policies and procedures and document all corrective actions when test systems deviate from the laboratory’s established performance specifications.
Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance and either correct the problem or immediately notify your supervisor, Director, or Medical Director.
Perform waived or highly and moderately complex laboratory procedures using manual and automated methods in Hematology, Chemistry, Urinalysis, Coagulation, Microbiology, and Immunology.
Perform and document instrument and equipment maintenance daily, weekly, monthly, or as needed.
Review the accuracy of patient results prior to releasing or reporting.
Ensure that proficiency testing samples are tested in the same manner as patient samples and collaborate with other laboratories to report proficiency testing results to the appropriate agencies.
Perform venipuncture or capillary puncture on various age groups from newborn to geriatrics when required.
Assist in the development and maintenance of laboratory policies and procedures.
Adhere to all department and hospital policies related to safety, infection control, emergency preparedness, and human resources.
Be assigned/identified as Lead Tech in the absence of a supervisor, having responsibility for the section or department during their shift.
Perform other tasks or responsibilities as assigned by the department manager/director.
Qualifications
ASCP certification or equivalent preferred.
Associate’s Degree in chemical, physical, biological science, or completion of coursework in a program for MLT.
1 year of hospital laboratory work experience preferred.
