Overview: United Veterinary Care is delighted to host veterinary students for externships! This valuable clinical experience allows you to apply your classroom knowledge in a real animal hospital setting. Our externships are designed for veterinary students in their clinical years (typically 3rd or 4th year) at AVMA-accredited veterinary schools. To make externships accessible, we offer stipends to help offset travel and lodging costs, unless prohibited by your veterinary school.
Eligibility requirements:
Current veterinary student at an AVMA-accredited school
Priority given to students in clinical years on official externship blocks for school credit
Proof of professional liability insurance (SAVMA members can obtain free insurance through AVMA)
Hospital information: If you want to spend your externship in sunny Florida, building skills across surgical and medical cases, Curry Ford Animal Hospital is ideal. We foster a supportive environment focused on professional growth, client care, and pet health. Please indicate your professional goals in your application so we can tailor your externship experience.
Species treated: Canine and Feline
Services offered: General practice, surgeries, Phovia, laser, in-house bloodwork, radiology
Expectations during your externship: You will participate in cases, supervised by experienced veterinarians and support staff, including surgical procedures, dental work, emergencies, and routine exams. We encourage active participation, case research, and case discussions to enhance learning. Let us know your technical skills goals so we can emphasize those areas. This environment promotes confidence and skill development in managing both routine and complex cases. Mentorship is a two-way process, and we welcome externs to contribute to our team’s knowledge.
