Radiology Technologist - Radiology (Per Diem) Essential job duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

Verifies patient identification and the procedure requested or prescribed.

Verifies patient’s pregnancy status.

Assesses patient risk for allergic reaction to medication prior to administration.

Reviews lab values prior to medication administration.

Explains effects and potential side effects of medications.

Prepares and administers IV and oral contrast agents.

Monitors patient for reaction to medication.

Assesses patient vital signs as needed.

Determines the need for and selects supplies, accessory equipment, shielding, positioning and immobilization devices.

Provides an accurate explanation and instructions regarding exams and procedures. Addresses questions and concerns regarding exams and procedures.

Educates the patient about the risks and benefits of radiation.

Positions patient for anatomic area of interest, respecting patient ability and comfort.

Performs QA on images and ensures proper transfer to PACS while electronically completing the exam in a timely manner.

Selects appropriate radiation exposure factors using the principles of ALARA.

Employs proper radiation safety practices and uses lead protective devices appropriately.

Controls access to radiation exposure areas.

Obtains and prepares supplies, medications and equipment for sterile and specialized radiological procedures. Use sterile or aseptic technique when indicated.

Performs procedural timeout.

Explain post-procedural instructions to patient or patient’s family.

Complies with all federal, state, local and regulatory agency requirements.

Patient Safety: Minimizes radiation exposure using ALARA principles, equipment safety and overall patient safety.

Patient schedules: Assists lead tech in prioritizing the needs of referring physicians and patients to accommodate add-on exams into daily schedules.

Protocols: May assist lead tech or director in development, implementation, changes and updates of protocols.

CQI & QA: May participate in CQI and QA yearly plans and activities as approved by Director.

Patient Experience: Accountable for improvement of patient experience and satisfaction scores for the modality and department.

Staffing & Scheduling: Seeks input to meet physician and patient needs while meeting productivity standards and budgets.

PACS: Ensures timely and quality transfer of images to PACS; collaborates with the PACS Administrator to resolve issues.

Staff Training/Orientation: Participates in training of new employees and assists leadership with orientation programs.

Staff Development: Assists lead tech and leadership in teaching and skill improvement among co-workers.

Regulatory Compliance: Maintains training and readiness for compliance with DNV, CMS and other regulating agencies; adheres to State of Montana, DNV, CMS, ARRT and ASRT scopes.

Equipment maintenance: Communicates issues affecting safe operation of equipment and coordinates with leadership/vendors for support when needed.

Department Projects: Participates in department projects such as accreditation and quality improvement initiatives; promotes department to physicians, community and patients.

Inventory: Assists in ordering and management of inventory.

Modality Liaison: Maintains professional communications across modalities, nursing, ED, scheduling, admitting, physicians, and transporters to ensure smooth patient care.

Positive, encouraging and promotional: Models positive interactions and promotes coworkers, physicians, hospital, and medical group.

Other assignments as requested by leadership team.

KNOWLEDGE/EXPERIENCE Graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology required and eligible to sit for ARRT registry exam.

EDUCATION Graduate from an accredited school of Radiologic Technology required.

LICENSE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY Current license in the State of Montana as a Radiology Technologist and registration with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) or a temporary license in the State of Montana and ARRT registry eligible with ARRT guidance required. Permanent license and registration with ARRT will be required within 5 months of hire. Current BLS is required.

Aptitudes Demonstrated ability to achieve cognitive, organization and emotional maturity to deal effectively with multiple tasks, stresses, deadlines, difficult situations and/or customers. Demonstrated ability for interpersonal/communication skills necessary for effective, non-judgmental, and empathetic patient care and customer relations. Demonstrated ability to receive feedback and adapt to a changing environment, which requires scheduling flexibility.
