Public Health Nurse 10 Months (School Health) – 20014615 at Mecklenburg County. This is a Full-Time permanent 10-month position (August to June, off for eight weeks in summer). Benefit-eligible during the year and prorated for the summer period. Hiring range: $60,020.80 - $78,777.30 per year. Application deadline: until filled. Note: This is an exempt (salary) position. Position Summary

This is a public health nurse position that works primarily in a school setting but may work in an office, clinical, or other community setting. Performs work with individuals, groups, or families to plan or implement programs designed to improve community health. May have onsite or offsite supervision; assesses patient health problems and needs; develops and implements nursing care plans; administers nursing care or delegates tasks to unlicensed assistive personnel; advises patients on health maintenance and disease prevention; and provides care management. All RNs employed by Mecklenburg County Health Department are Public Health Nurses and may provide nursing services during urgent/public health events, including immunizations, mass medication distribution, and shelter-based health services. Essential Functions

Ensure compliance with agency policies, procedures, and protocols, as well as Board of Nursing laws, rules, and standards. Utilize the nursing process in care delivery. Monitor, record, and report symptoms, medical information, vital signs, or changes in patient health status. Provide health services in accordance with standing orders and/or orders from health care providers. Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess patient care plans. Develop, evaluate, implement, and/or modify plans of care (e.g., standardized treatment plans, individualized health care plans, or emergency action plans). Perform administrative duties as needed and maintain accurate, detailed reports and records. Train unlicensed assistive personnel to perform delegable tasks. Provide health education/health promotion topics and anticipatory counseling to individuals, families, and groups. Assess needs of individuals, families, or communities to identify health or safety problems. Assess compliance with immunization laws; participate in immunization clinics as needed, including administering immunizations. Provide health care services, first aid, laboratory tests, exams, screenings, or related assistance in various locations. Refer clients to specialized health resources or community agencies when needed. Document patient history and services performed in electronic health records. Respond to urgent or emergent public health events as required, including emergencies and disasters. Minimum Qualifications

and

Education : Minimum of two years of professional nursing experience. Graduate from an accredited/approved nursing education program. Non-BSN incumbents must complete state Public Health nursing coursework and exams within a year of hire. Combination of relevant education and experience considered (N/A for rate). Licenses and Certifications : Current RN license in NC or another Nurse Licensure Compact state; Certification in Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers (CPR & AED) valid for at least 90 days after hire; may require a valid NC or SC driver's license; may require County Driving Privileges; annual MVR check; annual County background screening. Preferred Qualifications : Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Knowledge, Skills And Abilities

Knowledge of federal, state, and local laws and regulations (e.g., HIPAA; NC Nurse Practice Act). Strong nursing assessment skills and nursing techniques; medical and legal terminology; public health principles and epidemiology. Infection control, growth and development across lifespan, non-traditional settings, scope of nursing practice, and immunization/public health concepts. Skills

Prioritize and assign work; manage multiple tasks; maintain confidential records. Medication administration and basic nursing procedures; collaborate with multidisciplinary teams; ensure standards compliance. Use electronic health records for nursing documentation; apply laws and policies; exercise judgment and discretion; maintain HIPAA/FERPA-compliant records. Abilities

Care Management: manage patient care data and integrate assessments, interventions, and responses. Communication: convey information clearly; engage audiences; facilitate understanding. Patient Education/Health Promotion: educate patients and families on procedures and lifestyle changes. Teamwork and Customer Satisfaction: collaborate and align services with customer needs.
