Duties and Responsibilities

Work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, geologists and other scientists and practitioners to co-develop and implement research on the economic, ecological, and social impacts related to groundwater along the Georgia coastal region.

Percentage of time: 50% Participate in community outreach activities along the Georgia coastal region.

Percentage of time: 15% Support and mentor graduate and undergraduate students.

Percentage of time: 15% Co-author journal manuscripts, research reports, factsheets, and other written / video.

Percentage of time: 10% Communicate regularly and in a timely fashion with project PIs regarding research and other issues relevant to the operation of the laboratory.

Classification Title: Post-Doctoral Associate AD FLSA: Exempt FTE: 1.00 Position Summary

The Institute for Resilient Infrastructure Systems (IRIS) and the Department of Geology at the University of Georgia are hiring for a 1-year, renewable (for a maximum of 4 total years) postdoctoral research position. The successful candidate will develop a regional groundwater model for southeast and coastal Georgia and run future climate and development scenarios. The postdoc will be under the direct supervision of Brock Woodson (College of Engineering) and Adam Milewski (Department of Agricultural and Applied Economics), and will work with the broader team including the project sponsor to develop application scenarios and high-resolution site-specific models for areas of interest. The successful incumbent will work with an interdisciplinary team of engineers, geologists and other scientists and practitioners to co-develop and implement research on the economic, ecological, and social related to groundwater along the Georgia coastal region. The successful candidate will collaborate in disciplinary and interdisciplinary academic publications, policy briefings, and outreach activities. This is a research position with duties related to the project needs and the mentoring/supervision of graduate and undergraduate students. Qualifications

A PhD in economics, civil, or environmental engineering or related field completed by January 2025 Experience in modeling with Visual ModFlow Flex 8 or other ModFlow versions Expertise in geospatial methods, data analysis and visualization Experience working on interdisciplinary teams Expertise in coupled human-environment systems; record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals; and experience communicating to diverse audiences. Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong analytical and quantitative skills related to numerical modeling of groundwater flows; and strong oral and written communication skills. Physical Demands
