Drilling Manager – Location: Roosevelt UT

The I&S Drilling Superintendent/Manager is responsible for managing the I&S Wellsite Supervisors in LSTK/Integrated Operations projects for Baker Hughes, including geothermal and conventional drilling operations. The role manages several wellsites and acts as the main focal point interacting with the customer, leading all elements of the operations including Baker Hughes products, services, and contracted parties. The Superintendent must demonstrate effective leadership in all matters related to HSE ensuring that safe working practices are being always applied. They must also demonstrate a clear understanding through compliance of the latest Baker Hughes and customer standard operating procedures, checklists, recommended practices, and forms where applicable. The main objective is to drive and assure flawless HSE performance, on‑time delivery, consistency, and Service Delivery excellence.

The position reports to the I&S Project Manager or Operations Manager depending on the project and/or location. The I&S Wellsite Supervisors report to the I&S Drilling Superintendent.

Essential Responsibilities

Lead and ensure client and industry safety culture at the wellsites and in the office; ensure safe and accident/incident free operations.

Lead and participate in HSE related event investigations and follow‑up on remedial actions.

Ensure safety management and leadership at the wellsite.

Implement and ensure compliance of HSE emergency response systems, including geothermal‑specific hazards such as high‑temperature zones and corrosive fluids.

Promote and coach the implementation of HSE and service delivery management systems.

Ensure all business activities are in accordance with Baker Hughes HSE policies, legal compliance requirements and core values.

Provide direct instruction and supervision to the I&S Wellsite Supervisors on day‑to‑day wellsite activities and operations.

Effectively manage the application of drilling engineering principles, including well planning, drill string design, downhole dynamics, pore and fracture pressure analysis, drilling fluid management, hydraulics, and drill bit selection.

Support preparation of the operation budget and utilization forecast.

Support and advise in planning maintenance jobs to be carried out; monitor rigs and equipment inspection schedules as per standards and procedures.

Ensure that policies, standards, and procedures are implemented and understood for the wellsite operations assigned.

Ensure well control best practices are followed as per industry standard, client, and Baker Hughes requirements.

Have advanced understanding of directional drilling including horizontal and extended‑reach wells, cementing, casing/liner running, and fishing.

Have advanced understanding of rig systems and rig floor operations.

Provide resolution to a diverse scope and range of complex problems at the wellsite where analysis of data requires broad knowledge of the product line tools and/or services and wellsite operations.

Coordinate several rigs simultaneously.

Support implementation of new technologies and processes in rig operations.

Effective problem identification and solution skills; proven analytical and organizational ability.

Provide advice and direction to customers and third‑party wellsite resources as appropriate.

Ensure rigs under supervision operate in accordance with contractual obligations and relevant legal and regulatory requirements.

Act as front‑line training coach and assessor for rig personnel.

Appraise the training needs of the field personnel and make recommendations to management to allow the necessary training to be provided.

Support and implement the competency system for senior positions and identify areas of strength and development.

Assessor for the field supervisors in line with the competency system.

Qualifications / Requirements

Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university or college.

20+ years of relevant experience with at least 10+ years as a Wellsite Leader and 5+ years of geothermal drilling.

Valid well control certificate level 4 IWCF or equivalent for geothermal drilling requirements.

Demonstrates flexibility and commitment by working across both fields and rig locations, ensuring seamless coordination and support for field operations.

Ability to influence others and lead teams.

Effective problem identification and solution skills; proven analytical and organizational ability.

Comprehensive knowledge of well control best practices and procedures for geothermal applications.

Comprehensive knowledge about field service operations, installation, and maintenance operations.

Competency to plan, problem‑solve, organise, direct, and control wellsite operations.

Promotes a culture of collaboration and teamwork across multiple product lines, functions, and external parties.
