Purpose
The Lead Maintenance Technician is responsible for overseeing daily maintenance operations across select YWCA locations, ensuring the proper functioning of building systems, equipment, and infrastructure. This role combines hands‑on technical work with leadership responsibilities, guiding maintenance staff to meet safety, efficiency, and quality standards. The technician performs inspections, installations, and repairs across HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and construction systems, and responds to 24/7 emergency service needs. They also track, relocate, and record equipment, property, and supplies to support operational needs.
Salary Range $55,000 – $65,000
Key Responsibilities
Coordinate the work of maintenance technicians, assign tasks and monitor progress.
Oversee installation, repair, and maintenance of building systems (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, etc.).
Perform routine and preventive maintenance to minimize downtime and ensure system reliability.
Train and mentor maintenance staff in various trades: electrical, lighting, HVAC/small package units, carpentry, painting, grounds, and fire/security systems.
Execute and train on tasks such as re‑laming, plumbing repairs, restroom fixture replacement, drain cleaning, mechanical repairs, and general cleaning.
Relocate YWCA property and assist with furniture, signage, fixtures, and equipment setup.
Troubleshoot and repair system issues or coordinate contractor support when needed.
Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, inspections, and repairs.
Monitor inventory of tools, parts, and supplies; initiate purchase requests as needed.
Enforce safety procedures including Lock Out/Tag Out, playground equipment safety, and fire inspections.
Ensure compliance with safety regulations, building codes, and company policies.
Collaborate with other departments to support operational needs and resolve issues.
Participate in 24/7 emergency on‑call rotation.
Maintain a safe, clean, and functional environment across all YWCA facilities.
Address employee concerns and promote a positive, productive work environment.
Education and Certifications
High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Technical or vocational school education preferred.
EPA Universal Certification required.
Familiarity with project management and technology preferred.
Experience and Skills
5+ years of experience in building maintenance or a related field.
Proven supervisory experience in a maintenance setting.
Strong knowledge of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and mechanical systems.
Ability to read blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals.
Excellent problem‑solving and communication skills.
Proficiency with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems) is a plus.
Valid Driver’s License required.
Skilled in operating hand and power tools.
Ability to coordinate internal staff and external contractors to meet project goals.
Knowledge of safety regulations and ability to enforce them.
Vendor management and negotiation skills.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
Frequent walking, bending, lifting, and carrying items up to 50 lbs.
Extended periods of sitting while working on a computer.
Regular communication via phone and in‑person.
Driving between YWCA locations for inspections and maintenance.
Ability to climb ladders and access rooftops up to 30 feet.
Must perform duties during inclement weather, including snow removal.
Indoor and outdoor work environments, including mechanical rooms and rooftops.
May require occasional evening, weekend, or holiday work.
