Position Overview Performs imaging and therapeutic services, providing patient care in support of the Radiology Department's mission to deliver diagnostic information for patient treatment at WVU Medicine.
Minimum Qualifications Education, Certification, and Licensure
Completion of an Accredited Radiography School
Registered (or registry eligible) by the ARRT in Radiography; if eligible, boards must be passed within 6 months (WV, Ohio, Maryland) or 1 year (Pennsylvania) of hire
Radiologic Technologist certification through the applicable state board
Basic Life Support certification within 30 days of hire
State and Federal background checks as required
Core Duties and Responsibilities
Rotate through all diagnostic areas to develop technical skills
Perform imaging procedures based on patient assessment and protocols
Produce high-quality images using appropriate equipment
Select optimal exposure factors to ensure image quality and minimize radiation exposure
Minimize radiation exposure to self, patients, and staff
Maintain expertise in anatomy, physiology, and pathology for imaging optimization and patient safety
Assess patient needs and provide comfort and support during procedures
Prepare contrast agents and sterile trays per protocols
Educate patients about procedures and answer questions
Collaborate effectively with the healthcare team
Engage in problem solving and quality improvement initiatives
Adhere to ethical standards and regulations
Report equipment failures promptly
Complete required in-services and competencies
Position patients accurately according to protocols
Assist in coordinating daily workflow
Supervise and instruct radiology students appropriately
Ensure all components of the imaging process are completed
Physical Requirements
Differentiate shades of gray on monitors or photographs
Stand and walk for prolonged periods
Wear lead aprons weighing 8-15 pounds
Lift, push, and pull up to 50 pounds
Carry items up to 20 pounds
Working Environment
Exposure to minimal radiation monitored by safety protocols
Exposure to airborne particles and bodily fluids
Operate imaging equipment with moving parts
Skills and Abilities
Positive interaction with patients and healthcare team
Prioritization and multitasking skills
Ability to adapt positioning techniques as needed
