If so, we invite you to take this opportunity to join our team at the State of Connecticut Department of Children and Families (DCF) – recruiting for a Nurse to serve in our hospital in Middletown, CT. New only – Connecticut joined the Nurse Licensure Compact effective October 1, 2025.

Position Highlights

Location: Middletown, CT

Full‑time | 40 hours per week

Second Shift | 2:45 pm – 11:15 pm

Week One Off‑days: Friday, Tuesday

Week Two Off‑days: Saturday, Sunday

Salary: $79,874 – $104,588 per year (State base range)

Recruitment and retention bonus: $3,000 for nurses permanently assigned to 2nd or 3rd shift after one year of service

Responsibilities

Independently implements the nursing process with individuals, including carrying out physician’s orders regarding diet, medication, and treatment

Performs assessments, changes dressings, monitors, and ensures quality care through observation and evaluation

Documents nursing interventions on medical records and maintains records of controlled drugs

Provides instruction to patients, families, and staff regarding treatments, nursing plans, and health promotion

Responds to emergencies, maintains availability of medications and supplies, and ensures cleanliness of equipment and environment

Participates as a member of interdisciplinary treatment teams, developing and implementing nursing care plans

Administers routine tests, conducts training, and delegates nursing tasks per established protocols

Provides related medical or mental health specialty services, including psychotherapeutic and rehabilitation interventions

Maintains confidentiality, adheres to nursing standards, and upholds integrity in patient care

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Graduation from an accredited nursing program

Valid Registered Nurse license in Connecticut or a Multistate/Compact RN license

Competency in nursing theory, practice, ethics, and current medications

Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in a behavioral health hospital setting

Experience serving youth with complex psychiatric profiles

Special Requirements

License or temporary permit as a Registered Nurse in Connecticut OR hold a Multistate/Compact RN license

May be required to speak a foreign language or use American Sign Language in certain positions

May be required to travel

Salary & Benefit Summary Base salary: $79,874 – $104,588 per year. Eligible for a $3,000 annual recruitment and retention bonus for second/final shift assignments after one year of service.
