Position Overview: The Ohio State University College of Medicine and the Wexner Medical Center seek a Vice Chair of Molecular Pathology to join the Department of Pathology. The position is at the Full Professor rank. Expertise in molecular pathology, clinical bioinformatics/informatics, and genomics is essential. Research interests in machine learning, artificial intelligence, or the integration of genomics and digital pathology are preferred. Qualified applicants must possess an MD, MD‑equivalent, PhD, or MD/PhD degree, with relevant clinical board certification/eligibility in Molecular Genetic Pathology or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics. Additional training in Bioinformatics or Clinical Informatics with certification/eligibility is preferred. The ability to conduct independent research is required, and a history of obtaining competitive grant funding is desirable.

Requirements

Relevant practical experience as director of a clinical molecular diagnostics laboratory, including NGS assay development, assay automation, genomic analytic pipeline development, and regulatory and quality control related to genomic technologies.

Relevant practical experience in molecular laboratory clinical bioinformatics, with prior experience supervising junior faculty, clinical fellows, variant scientists, or annotators.

Well‑developed interests in translational or basic research in molecular pathology, genomics, and/or clinical bioinformatics.

Qualification for an academic appointment at the full professor level – academic rank and salary will be commensurate with previous training and experience.

MD, MD‑equivalent, PhD, or MD/PhD with board certification or eligibility in Molecular Genetic Pathology or Laboratory Genetics and Genomics.

Additional training in Bioinformatics or Clinical Informatics preferred.

Responsibilities

Oversee the PhD and MD faculty in the Division of Molecular Pathology, including clinical directors and research faculty.

Serve on the leadership team with other Vice Chairs in the Department to provide guidance to the Pathology Chair on clinical and research needs and strategic growth.

Lead and support a research program on molecular genetics, genomic medicine, clinical, or translational studies.

Develop training programs and instructional curriculum in molecular pathology and serve as a mentor to graduate students, clinical residents and fellows, medical students, and other trainees.

Represent the pathology faculty in cancer center or institutional initiatives in genomics.
