Founded in 1852, GSC is a member of the University System of Georgia. The college has a distinctive legacy of excellent scholarship and service. Job Title Career Services Coordinator
Location Gordon State College
Job Summary This position assists and guides students through all components of Career Services and partners with organization and community leaders to develop student opportunities that enhance professional skills and integrate academic learning and work experience. The role focuses on student retention, recruitment, and graduation.
Responsibilities
Community Engagement & Internship Placement & Oversight
Build and maintain strong partnerships with employers, community organizations, and professional associations to expand job, internship, and field placement opportunities.
Coordinate the college’s internship and field placement programs in collaboration with Academic Affairs and academic departments, ensuring compliance with institutional and accreditation standards.
Serve as the primary point of contact for students, faculty, site supervisors, and employers to support successful placements and resolve issues.
Organize and lead career fairs, networking events, and recruitment sessions to connect students with hiring professionals.
Assess and report on internship and placement outcomes, collecting data on student performance, site quality, and employer satisfaction to improve programs.
Represent Career Services on college committees and at community events to advance Gordon State College’s workforce development mission.
Career Development Programming
Plan and deliver career development workshops, job‑readiness training, and professional skills seminars.
Provide individualized career counseling/advising sessions, including support for undecided students exploring majors and career paths.
Offer résumé and cover letter reviews, mock interviews, and job search strategy coaching.
Maintain and update Handshake (Career Management Platform) and the employer database each semester.
Student Support & Advising
Inform students of career opportunities aligned with their goals and connect them with prospective employers.
Assist students in seeking part‑time, full‑time, and co‑op positions while preparing them for a competitive job market.
Partner with faculty and student support staff to embed career readiness into academic and co‑curricular programs.
Operations & Supervision
Recruit, train, schedule, and supervise student employees and interns.
Oversee the career services website and technology platforms supporting students, alumni, and employers.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in a course of study related to the occupational field.
Minimum of three (3) years of relevant experience.
Preferred Qualifications
Career and academic advising experience.
SHRM membership.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of academic program requirements, employment trends, and recruiting strategies.
Knowledge of National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) Standards.
Knowledge of University System of Georgia Career Services policies.
Proficiency with career services technologies and platforms, including Handshake, Steppingblocks, social media platforms (LinkedIn, Facebook, Instagram, Snap Chat, Twitter), design and survey software, Microsoft Office Suite, Google Workspace, Banner, and Degree Works.
Skills in organization, research, and program development.
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
Ability to engage effectively with students, employers, and campus partners at events and through outreach efforts.
Ability to develop and deliver workshops, career programs, and informational resources.
Ability to use technology and resources strategically to connect students with employers.
