Position Summary
Lead plant breeding and pre‑breeding research in a start‑up setting at the University of Georgia’s CAES‑Horticulture department. The Post‑Doctoral Associate will conduct field, greenhouse, and laboratory work focused on characterizing horticultural traits, evaluating breeding lines, and contributing to the development of new crop varieties for the Southeast United States. Responsibilities
Field: Lead multi‑location snapbean variety trials to identify promising breeding lines for potential release. Greenhouse: Lead trichome characterization in pepper and tomato and assist with whitefly and other insect screening. Laboratory: Conduct post‑harvest fruit quality analyses and collaborate with internal and external partners. Publications & Grants: Prepare peer‑reviewed publications, participate in grant proposal preparation. Student Support: Supervise graduate and undergraduate students and seasonal lab workers. Other tasks: Perform additional duties as assigned. Qualifications
PhD in Plant Breeding or a related field. Experience in pre‑ and post‑harvest biochemistry, physiology, genomic selection, disease resistance screening, and wet‑lab research. Proficiency in bioinformatics, metabolomics, transcriptomics, and sequencing data analysis. Strong knowledge of breeding methods, molecular biology, and high‑throughput phenotyping. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to work in a multicultural team and a start‑up environment. Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel for field trials.
