Job Summary The Senior Mechanic is responsible for the diagnosis, repair, and maintenance of heavy equipment, with a focus on large forklifts and trucks. The role requires strong mechanical, hydraulic, and electrical troubleshooting skills and a solid understanding of heavy equipment operation and repair in accordance with factory and industry standards.
Responsibilities
Maintain inventory of replacement parts, tools, and equipment required for operations.
Ensure preventative maintenance and repairs meet all quality and safety standards.
Test mechanical products and equipment after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer specifications.
Repair and replace damaged or worn parts.
Operate and inspect machines or heavy equipment to diagnose defects.
Diagnose faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs.
Dismantle and reassemble heavy equipment using hoists and hand tools.
Clean, lubricate, and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment and vehicles.
Examine parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges.
Schedule maintenance for industrial machines and equipment, and keep equipment service records.
Read and understand operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings.
Overhaul and test machines or equipment to ensure operating efficiency.
Adjust, maintain, and repair or replace subassemblies, such as transmissions and crawler heads, using hand tools, jacks, and cranes.
Adjust and maintain industrial machinery using control and regulating devices.
Observe all safety precautions and wear appropriate PPE at all times.
Perform any other duties as requested by the supervisor and/or manager.
Qualifications
5+ years proven experience as a Diesel Mechanic or similar role in automotive repair.
Diesel Mechanic Certification preferred.
Ability to use diagnostic tools and equipment effectively.
Collaborate with team members to troubleshoot complex mechanical problems.
Inspect, diagnose, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems on heavy equipment including 20k forklifts, dozers, excavators, and off‑road trucks.
Ability to work flexible and/or extended hours and weekends (normal schedule: 45 hrs).
Pass a background check and drug screen.
Stable work history and reliable transportation.
Commitment to working safely at all times and to the company policies and procedures.
Positive attitude; good team player.
Knowledge of diesel engine and hydraulic system diagnostics and preventive maintenance.
Knowledge of DOT rules and regulations.
Experience with heavy diesel engine diagnostics and repairs.
Physical Requirements
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and frequently exert 100 lbs of force.
Work involves long periods of standing, squatting, bending, twisting, and reaching, and may include climbing.
Ability to work in extreme weather conditions – heat, cold, rain.
Good manual dexterity and precise finger movements.
Normal vision and hearing.
