Role Description The Electro‑Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing electrical and mechanical systems within a food manufacturing facility. This role ensures that all production and packaging equipment operates efficiently, safely, and in compliance with food safety standards. The position involves both preventative and emergency maintenance to minimize downtime and maximize product quality.

Key Responsibilities: Equipment Maintenance & Repair

Install, maintain, and repair

electrical and mechanical components

on production and packaging lines.

Troubleshoot and repair

motors, sensors, relays, conveyors, pumps, and PLC‑controlled systems .

Perform

preventive maintenance (PM)

tasks according to schedules and documentation.

Calibrate

temperature controls, flow meters, and weighing systems

used in food processing.

Diagnose and repair issues with

hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical drive systems .

Electrical & Control Systems

Read and interpret

electrical schematics, PLC programs, and wiring diagrams .

Assist with

PLC troubleshooting

and minor programming adjustments (Allen‑Bradley, Siemens, etc.).

Maintain and repair

control panels, electrical circuits, and automation equipment .

Sanitation & Food Safety

Follow

Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs)

and ensure all work complies with

HACCP, SQF, and FDA

standards.

Clean and sanitize equipment components during maintenance activities to prevent contamination.

Ensure all repairs and installations meet

food safety and hygiene requirements .

Documentation & Communication

Maintain accurate

maintenance logs, work orders, and equipment history

in the CMMS system.

Communicate equipment status and repair needs to supervisors and production teams.

Recommend improvements to enhance

equipment reliability and plant efficiency .

Skills and Qualifications

Strong knowledge of

industrial electrical systems

(AC/DC, controls, sensors, drives).

Proficiency with

mechanical systems

(belts, chains, bearings, gearboxes, hydraulics, pneumatics).

Familiarity with

food‑grade equipment , sanitary design, and washdown environments.

Ability to

read technical drawings, blueprints, and PLC schematics .

Excellent

problem‑solving and troubleshooting

skills.

Strong commitment to

safety and food quality standards .

Education & Experience

Associate degree or technical diploma

in Electromechanical Technology, Mechatronics, or related field.

2–5 years of experience

as an Electro‑Mechanic, Maintenance Technician, or Mechatronics Technician in a food manufacturing or processing environment.

Knowledge of

GMPs, HACCP, and food safety protocols

preferred.

Certifications (desirable):

Electrical Safety (NFPA 70E)

PLC or Automation Certification

Working Conditions

Work in

cold, humid, or hot environments

depending on production areas.

May require

shift work, weekends, or on‑call availability .

Frequent standing, bending, and lifting of parts or tools (up to 50 lbs).

Salary: Starting at $27 plus per hour (based on experience, qualifications, and shift schedule and opportunities for overtime and advancement).
