We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented

Civil Designer

to join our civil engineering firm. A Civil Designer is responsible for planning and designing land development projects. Utilizing specialized software, Civil 3D, they create detailed drawings and plans based on specifications provided by engineers and project managers. Their role involves performing site assessments, analyzing data, and ensuring designs comply with industry standards and regulations. Civil Designers collaborate closely with engineers and surveyors to address design challenges and optimize project outcomes. Strong technical skills, attention to detail, and effective communication are essential for success in this position.

Key Responsibilities

Prepare detailed civil design and construction plans, including notes, details, plan and profile sheets, and cross-sections.

Assist the permitting department in creating and submitting project permitting packages.

Develop construction cost estimates and draft engineering drawings, plans, and contract documents.

Conduct fieldwork, research, documentation, and drafting of engineering data as required by clients or managers.

Design water, sewer, and stormwater systems for commercial, residential, and municipal projects, including calculations and reporting.

Maintain clear communication with contractors, clients, and the public regarding design and construction matters.

Compile contract documents suitable for bidding and ensure compliance with municipal requirements and standards.

Perform preliminary site layouts by interpreting zoning codes and transitioning conceptual designs into engineering plans.

Create profiles for storm, sewer, and roadway designs while identifying potential conflicts during the design phase.

Assist with preliminary grading, stormwater layouts, and profiles for land development projects.

Coordinate plan set preparation, incorporating designs from the lead engineer, and review for adherence to standards.

Perform additional related tasks as assigned.

Qualifications

Associate or bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.

Proficiency in Civil 3D is required, with experience in land development, site grading, layout, drainage, water, sewer, and sediment control preferred.

Strong understanding of data references and utility layout for water, sewer, and storm drainage systems.

Familiarity with design and modeling software such as ICPR, WaterCAD/EPAnet, or StormCAD is a plus.

Advanced skills in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Outlook, and Word.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple projects within budget and schedule constraints.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with team members, clients, and the public.

Ability to work independently or in a team environment.
