Responsibilities

Management of daily construction management and inspection services.

Field inspection of contractor operations to ensure compliance with contract documents.

Preparation of daily and weekly reports on work accomplished.

Materials testing and maintenance of testing logs.

Review of periodic pay estimates for accuracy.

Preparation of sketches and assembly of data for engineer use.

Keeping diary and making reports on work accomplished.

Performing sophisticated, complicated mathematical calculations.

Reviewing contractor schedules including initial CPM and monthly updates.

Communicating effectively with the engineer, owner and owner's operational and field staff on a regular basis.

Qualifications

Zero to two years for Inspector Trainee; minimum three years for Inspector; minimum six years for Senior Inspector.

Inspection and management experience with roadway, bridge, utility and pavement rehabilitation construction.

Experience coordinating inspection duties with multiple simultaneously operating crews.

Tracking daily quantities, completing daily inspection reports, performing monthly estimates and as-built drawings.

Valid driver's license and clean driving record.

High School Diploma or State Equivalency Certificate (Bachelor's degree desirable).

Good communication skills, reading/interpretation of plans and specifications, writing and drawing skills.

Basic computer skills (Word & Excel) desirable.

Willing to work nights and overtime, when required.

VDOT materials certifications (Asphalt, Concrete, Soils, Aggregate, Pavement Marking) and other certifications desirable.
