Job Overview Perform complex motor vehicle maintenance and repair work for a state-supported living center that serves individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Responsibilities include preventive maintenance, safety and emissions inspections, and the repair or replacement of motor vehicle components.
Responsibilities
Performs maintenance, diagnosis, repair, or replacement of defective components on motor vehicles.
Performs safety and emissions inspections.
Exchanges, rebuilds, and overhauls motors, transmissions, differentials, carburetors, and other motor vehicle components and systems.
Distributes motor vehicle supplies.
Inventories parts and equipment.
Maintains records on work performed and parts used.
May maintain and repair heavy construction equipment.
May provide guidance to others.
Performs related work as assigned.
Participates in disaster response or COOP activation as required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of motor vehicle maintenance and repair techniques, safety practices, departmental policies and record-keeping procedures, electrical and computerized systems, and emission control systems.
Skill in locating and diagnosing defective mechanical problems.
Licensure, Certification, and Training Must possess a valid Texas driver’s license or obtain it within 90 days of hire. Candidates with an out-of-state license must provide an original certified driving record. Certification from the National Institute of Automotive Service Excellence or a Texas Motor Vehicle Safety Inspector license may be required.
Experience and Education High school graduation or GED, or completion of an accredited vocational/technical program in automotive repair or a related field. Five (5) years of related work experience in the repair and maintenance of motor vehicles.
Additional Requirements Applicants must pass a fingerprint criminal background check, pre-employment drug screen, and registry checks including the Client Abuse/Neglect Reporting System (CANRS), Nurse Aide, Medication Aide, and Employee Misconduct and HHS List of Excluded Individuals/Entities (LEIE). Random drug testing may occur. Flexibility for overtime and weekend/holiday work is required. All applicants must be at least 18 years of age.
