Summary: Responsible for overseeing and coordinating phlebotomy procedures within a healthcare facility. This role serves as a laboratory liaison to patients, nursing personnel, and staff, ensuring excellence in quality and safety of blood collection and analysis. Essential Functions: Supervise staff by overseeing and directing work of staff members, providing guidance and support as needed. Provide patients with all necessary information about the procedure; ensure patients are comfortable and safe. Collect blood specimens via venipuncture and skin puncture; ensure complete and accurate specimens for testing; prepare specimens for processing and complete any associated paperwork. Mentor those learning phlebotomy, including personnel duties such as orientation, training, input on performance evaluations, and coaching for performance improvement; provide direction and assist supervisor or designee in facilitating the workflow to ensure duties are completed timely and accurately. Obtain the required specimens/labels and transport to specified areas. Maintain accurate records of phlebotomy procedures, including patient information and test results. Education: High School Diploma or Equivalent required. Experience in phlebotomy is preferred, with 2-3 years of experience required. Licenses and Credentials: None specified. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Compassionate, warm, and patient-focused. Exceptional communication skills and professional behavior. Detail-oriented. Knowledge of blood collector equipment, anticoagulants used, special precautions, and interferences, and ability to implement principles of aseptic techniques.
