Overview
RN Clinical (OR) - Outpatient Surgery Center HC4 - Full Time 8 Hour Rotating Shift (Non-Exempt) (Union) at Keck Medicine of USC. The role involves using the nursing process to provide therapeutic perioperative care across preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative phases, and collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to meet patient needs. Responsibilities
Adherence to Universal Patient Safety Goals in all areas of practice. Adheres to safety standards of labeling medication on and off the sterile field. Apply nursing process to formulate and implement care plans; provide direct and indirect care. Perform skills essential to nursing action and take appropriate intraoperative actions. Delegate tasks based on scope of practice, preparation, and capability. Evaluate effectiveness of care and modify plans based on observation and information interpretation. Advocate for patients by initiating actions to advance the plan of care and support changes. Ensure electrical/laser/radiology safety and intraoperative MRI safety where applicable. Follow Correct Site Surgery and Universal Protocol standards. Operate autoclave/Steris with proper documentation. Communicate information to all staff using SBAR during handoffs and regarding patient care and flow. Document patient charges, implant records, pathology specimens, and preoperative records accurately and timely. Utilize Cerner documentation system and update preference cards as needed. Adhere to instrument/sponges/sharps count policy. Practice according to collaboration principles and demonstrate respectful teamwork and delegation. Follow policies, Title 22, and JCAHO standards. Participate in professional practice development (nursing committees, research, policy development/review, unit-based improvement projects). Demonstrate knowledge of current policies and awareness of new trends/technology; apply surgical anatomy and procedures to prepare equipment and instrumentation for procedures. Maintain specialty carts and ensure supplies are organized, current, and accessible; prepare surgical suites daily for procedures. Facilitate the smooth flow of surgical interventions and participate in hospital/department PI activities. Perform other related duties as assigned. Required Qualifications
BSN degree in Nursing (Grandfathered from BSN if hired prior to 12/2019) 1 year operating room nursing experience in an acute care setting immediately prior to application 2 years recent Outpatient Surgery experience Excellent communication skills in English (speaking, reading, writing) Knowledge of medical procedures and conditions and ability to perform duties including whole blood collection and apheresis procedures in accordance with policies and procedures Preferred Qualifications
Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Healthcare Provider certification from American Heart Association Required Licenses/Certifications
Registered Nurse (CA Board of registered Nursing)– California RN license Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider from American Heart Association Fire Life Safety Training (LA City) – if no card at hire, obtain within 30 days and maintain renewal (LA City only) The hourly rate range for this position is $44.00 - $95.00.
