Foster Care Case Managers are essential to the care of children in the child welfare system. A foster care case manager begins to work with a child after a court order has removed the child from their parents, and the case manager continues to work with the child as long as they’re in foster care. The case manager’s work includes directly serving the child and parents and leading a collaborative team to ensure the child’s ongoing safety and well-being. The end goal is for the child to reach permanency, which can include the child’s safe return home to a parent, adoption, guardianship, or independent living. This highly impactful role requires people with a unique blend of strengths including compassion, organization, communication, and perseverance. The case manager has access to supervisory support and must be able to make independent assessments and adapt to a diverse array of situations. The position requires flexing schedules to meet children and families in the community when best for them. Essential Responsibilities

Monthly home visits with foster children (at least monthly in their residence). Monthly visits with parents of foster children and engagement in treatment plans to support reunification wherever possible. Timely report writing, including quarterly reports for judges and attorneys; strong written communication is essential. Court testimony and participation in required court appearances. Commitment to learn and comply with MDHHS foster care policies and procedures. Maintaining a caseload (approximately 13 children) and coordinating with licensing, medical, and adoption personnel as needed. Cooperation with agency staff and partner agencies on paperwork and service delivery. Coordinate and monitor community resources (schools, evaluations, classes, therapies, etc.). Develop and implement service plans and parent-agency agreements; counsel parents in completing plans. Attend agency and team meetings, case conferences, and required trainings; participate in court-related activities. Safely transport youth; be available at night and on weekends as part of on-call responsibilities. Fulfill other duties per agency policies or supervisory direction; may require working more than 40 hours per week to meet objectives. Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work or related Human Services field (Master’s degree is a bonus). Positive acceptance of supervision to learn and be trained in case management, assessment, and treatment skills. Commitment to providing excellent child welfare services; prior child welfare experience is a plus. Experience or training in counseling, interviewing, assessment, and crisis intervention with children or adults. Valid driver’s license, good driving record, adequate insurance, and reliable vehicle. Ability to work with diverse populations with warmth and cultural sensitivity. Core Competencies
