Be part of a team that’s committed to service, innovation, and community.**Job Summary**Troubleshoots, calibrates, repairs, and installs non-complex commercial and/or residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning/refrigeration equipment.**Job Description****Overview**The HVAC Technician I performs first level technical work in the troubleshooting, calibration, repair, and installation of commercial and residential heating, ventilation, and air conditioning or refrigeration equipment.**Essential Functions****1.** Performs mechanical labor, repair, and maintenance work for City of Dallas HVAC equipment and related systems; performs mechanical, technical, and general manual labor to support services and experienced workers.**2.** Troubleshoots, evaluates, and checks electrical components and pneumatic controls on HVAC refrigeration equipment to assist experienced mechanics in making repairs; identifies concerns, determines repair, or communicates issue to a more experienced technician.**3.** Performs routine preventive and maintenance work on HVAC and refrigeration equipment to maintain service level in city buildings; checks drain lines, clears pipes, and makes necessary repairs.**4.** Installs and repairs small electric motors used in forced air systems; installs and repairs drinking fountains, refrigerators, freezers, ice machines, etc.; provides mechanical help and insight to address malfunctioning components.**5.** Fabricates and installs sheet metal ductwork for HVAC systems in city buildings.**6.** Maintains records of work orders, material requests, time sheets, etc. to document work progress; monitors supplies and equipment and works with various individuals to determine needs.**7.** Performs other trades work as needed or assigned.**Knowledge and Skills*** Basic knowledge of heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, equipment, and repair tools.* Ability to operate hand and portable power tools used in the installation and repair of HVAC systems.* Ability to read, write, and comprehend basic technical descriptions and plans.* Basic knowledge of electrical and mechanical codes related to HVAC installation and repairs.* Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.* Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.**Minimum Qualifications****Experience**Two (2) years of experience in air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration work.**Licenses and Certifications**Must have a valid driver's license with good driving record.Must have a current Environmental Protection Agency Certification (EPA – 608 Universal Level Certification).**Education**High School or GED.**Equivalency**Completed Vocational Program in HVAC or Basic Refrigeration and one (1) year of relevant experience, in addition to the EPA Certificate will meet the education and experience requirements.**Other Requirements**Availability to work varying shifts including nights, weekends, holidays, rotating shifts and overtime.**Salary Range**$22.99 - $25.56The salary listed on this job posting is the starting salary range; amount offered will depend upon qualifications.City of Dallas is an Equal Opportunity Employer.The City of Dallas is one of the largest employers in the DFW Metroplex.
