Position Overview
The Equipment Operator/Foreman is a position in the Service & Construction Department, or Regional Area, that services the customer accounts in the field along with helping to supervise and repair the water distribution and sanitary sewer collection systems of the company’s client districts. The position operates a backhoe and supervises the remainder of the backhoe crew. The person must be able to perform all of the duties of the Service Technician in addition to the added duties of the backhoe operator and crew supervisor. Essential Job Functions
Operate backhoe or other related equipment and supervise crew Make Water Taps and install water meters Repair water distribution main line and service line leaks Supervise concrete and landscape restoration Perform other water distribution system repairs such as valve replacements, flush valve and fire hydrant repairs, etc. Supervise jet machine operation Investigate water leaks and sewer back-ups Handle water quality complaints Perform Disconnects and Reconnects of water customers Flush water distribution system as required Read meters (Customer and Interconnect Meters) Pick up payments from Districts that maintain Payment Drop Boxes Replace Meters, Meter Boxes and Meter Box Lids as required Perform Water Distribution System Valve Surveys Perform Sanitary Sewer System Manhole Surveys Customer Service – make customer contact as needed Report unauthorized discharges from the sanitary sewer system to the Regulatory Affairs Dept. so report can be submitted to TCEQ Perform other minor repairs in the water distribution or sanitary sewer collection systems Complete field Work Orders and submit to Service Dept. Post Meeting Agendas as required Education and Experience Requirements
High School or GED Minimum “D” Water and “D” Wastewater Certificates or Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection Certificates issued by the TCEQ Must be able to read and understand plans associated with water distribution and wastewater collection systems Commercial Drivers License with Good Driving Record Ability to Maintain TXDOT Rating for Commercial Vehicle Other Skills/Abilities
Mechanical Aptitude Ability to communicate with Operations and Construction VP Ability to communicate with Customers Ability to work overtime is a mandatory requirement of this job Work Environment
Tasks involve the intermittent performance of physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of reaching, bending, stooping, kneeling, or crouching, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds) Subject to exposure to dust, fumes, vibration, noise, and dirty working conditions Seniority level
