Responsibilities
Maintenance Technicians
in the Collection System Maintenance Division of Water Management. Successful candidates must be able to operate or learn to operate the tools and equipment required for the position. We seek motivated team-players who take pride in their work and wish to advance their careers in the industry.
For Stand-by/Recall duty, cross training in the workgroups listed below is possible.
In the event of an emergency, all employees are considered essential personnel and may be required to perform alternate duties. Overtime is required when needed or when responding to emergencies. This role participates in the scheduled rotation for Stand-by/Recall duty throughout the year.
This job works during all types of weather.
Collection Systems : Assists with closed circuit television inspections of water & sewer lines, flush truck operations and sanitary sewer overflow response
Outfall Maintenance : Clears easements and assists with manhole repairs and inspections; also responds to sanitary sewer system overflows
Performing manual and semi-skilled laborer work.
Entering confined spaces, determining gas leaks, overseeing light chemical applications.
Painting, and performing basic carpentry and plumbing.
Providing shop assistance.
Operating light equipment and vehicles.
Assisting with Collection System TV inspections, flush truck operations and sanitary sewer overflow response.
As assigned:
Maintains pipelines, installing new services, hydrants, valves, manholes and meters
Repairs and maintain valves and fire hydrants used for water distribution; assists with CCTV inspections of water & sewer lines, flush truck operations and sanitary sewer overflow response
Clears easements and assists with manhole repairs and inspections; also respond to sanitary sewer system overflows
Installs and repairs residential water meters and registers, to diagnose and repair small leaks, replace meter boxes, and setters, test and repair large meters
Qualifications
High School Diploma or equivalent (GED, HiSet, TASC)
Two years of maintenance experience in trades, field position, or equipment operation
Must have a valid, unrestricted North Carolina driver’s license; if you currently have another state driver’s license, you must be willing and able to obtain a valid NC driver’s license within 60 days of hire
Experience in a municipal or water and sewer authority is preferred.
North Carolina Class B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Level B, or willingness and ability to obtain CDL-B within 6 months of start date is strongly preferred.
OSHA Trenching/Shoring & OSHA Competent Person certifications, or willingness and ability to obtain within 1 month of start date is strongly preferred.
