The Buyer is typically a fully qualified incumbent responsible for executing job accountabilities independently on most aspects of the role. The primary focus is the procurement of goods and services in support of business operations, acting as a crucial communication link between internal customers, suppliers, and external customers. Erroneous decisions can negatively impact operations, schedules, and performance goals.
Responsibilities
Procurement Execution:
Procuring parts and supplies for new products, existing products, and non-production supplies. This includes reviewing requisitions, contacting vendors, examining bids, and initiating contracts.
MRP and Inventory:
Initiating purchases driven through the MRP (Material Requirements Planning) process, assessing when to execute orders, and managing overall inventory management and purchase price variance (PPV).
Supplier Relationship Management:
Acting as the primary contact with suppliers and customers to facilitate problem resolution (e.g., shortages, allocations, discrepant material). This includes managing the overall supplier relationship, evaluating performance, and driving improvements.
Supply Chain Management:
Ensuring on-time delivery, tracking forecast accuracy, coordinating and managing last time buys for end-of-life products, and facilitating quoting and sourcing to improve supply and reduce costs.
Financial & Compliance:
Updating standard costs for assigned parts, analyzing variances to determine root cause and implement corrective action, and developing/documenting audit procedures to ensure compliance with SCM policies and ISO standards.
Knowledge/Skills
Basic knowledge of
electronic manufacturing environment, materials, and processes .
Strong knowledge of procurement processes, inventory management, and supplier management .
Strong knowledge of SCM policies, procedures, and ISO standards .
Knowledge of the types of materials being purchased.
Good negotiation and problem resolution skills .
Strong communication skills
(verbal and written) for diverse internal and external customers.
Good analytical skills.
Ability to handle multiple tasks
while maintaining attention to detail and accuracy under tight deadlines.
Ability to evaluate, prioritize, and problem-solve
a variety of tasks.
Proficiency in common office platforms
(e.g., MS Office/Excel).
Experience with ERP/MRP systems
(e.g., SAP application knowledge is a plus).
Physical Demands
Duties are typically performed in a
normal office environment .
Requires
extended periods of sitting
and sustained visual concentration on a computer monitor or detailed data.
Repetitive manual movements
(e.g., data entry, using a computer mouse/calculator) are frequently required.
Occasional overnight travel
may be required.
