Position Description The Materials Manager is responsible for leading the strategic direction and execution of materials management initiatives to ensure efficient and effective supply chain operations. This role requires a seasoned professional with proven expertise in materials planning, inventory management, and team leadership. The Materials Manager will collaborate closely with the Plant Manager to optimize material flow, reduce costs, and support production objectives.
Key Responsibilities Strategic Planning and Execution
Develop and implement comprehensive materials management strategies aligned with production and organizational goals.
Optimize material flow and inventory levels to support seamless production operations.
Lead long-term strategic initiatives to strengthen supply chain performance and resilience.
Leadership and Accountability
Provide clear direction and leadership to the materials planning team, including Senior and Associate Planners.
Mentor and develop team members to ensure alignment with organizational goals and professional growth.
Establish measurable performance objectives and provide ongoing coaching and feedback.
Stakeholder Engagement
Build and maintain strong relationships with suppliers, production teams, and internal departments.
Represent the materials management function in plant meetings and cross-functional initiatives.
Inventory Management
Design and oversee inventory control systems to maintain optimal stock levels and reduce excess inventory.
Monitor inventory performance, analyze trends, and provide regular updates to plant leadership.
Identify and mitigate potential risks impacting material availability or cost.
Cost Reduction and Efficiency
Lead cost reduction initiatives through effective planning, sourcing, and inventory management strategies.
Implement continuous improvement projects to enhance operational efficiency and minimize waste.
Track cost performance and adjust strategies as needed to achieve organizational objectives.
