Position Summary
The Maintenance Technician is accountable for maintaining and repairing all types of power plant and steam distribution equipment including plant mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment, instrumentation and controls equipment, installation and calibration of equipment, buildings, grounds and vehicles at the site. This includes completing all related corrective and preventative maintenance work orders. The Maintenance Technician is accountable to Maintenance Manager, and operates within the context and prescribed limits established by Plant Management.
Major accountabilities
Provide input to the Maintenance Manager regarding technical plans and directions and ensure ongoing appropriate relationships with other positions.
Ensure the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Complete preventative and corrective maintenance work orders as assigned.
Maintain all tools used in performance of duties as well as an inventory of designated materials, tools and equipment for work assigned.
Diagnose malfunctions and implement repair strategies on plant wide electrical system, electronic instrumentation and control, and mechanical systems.
Perform preventative, predictive, and corrective maintenance on power plant electrical, instrument and controls systems including the Siemens T3000 hardware and software. Read meters, gauges or automatic devices to record data such as temperature, vibration, hours of operation, pressure, fluid levels and be knowledgeable of water chemistry, calibration of equipment, and operating troubleshooting analyzers.
Participate in various training programs to help support plant operations; supports the site Management of Change program.
Report to Maintenance Manager or his/her designee as needed.
Support storeroom inventory including assignments in the warehouse to include issuing parts, placing parts and materials in their designated locations (as listed in the CMMS system Maximo). Research, source and order parts and materials as required. Set up shipping and receive parts and materials required to maintain the facility.
Diagnose control, mechanical and electrical systems and equipment problems.
Interface with CMMS (Maximo) to document maintenance work activities and inventory usage.
Serve as a technical resource for personnel with regard to mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and operation and maintenance of equipment.
Conduct routine mechanical, electrical and electronic system and equipment inspections and tests as required to ensure plant is operating within specified parameters.
Respond to all mechanical, electrical and electronic system and equipment alarms and malfunctions as directed. Coordinate with the Shift Supervisor to identify and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
Spot issues, or potential issues, with all operating parameters on all mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and equipment to identify potential or impending failures and to ensure plant is running at optimal efficiency. Coordinates with the Shift Supervisor to identify and initiate appropriate corrective actions.
Repairs, maintains and installs mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and equipment; rearranges and maintains and modifies as directed.
Follows predictive, preventative and corrective maintenance procedures and schedules as directed.
Performs a variety of maintenance activities including the use of basic hand tools, machining, welding pipefitting and tubing functions, equipment and test equipment, calibration and alignment equipment, inspection testing, testing/troubleshooting/repairing mechanical, electrical and electronic equipment, as well as lubrication as required.
Performs adjustments and maintenance corrections on equipment found operating beyond the prescribed setting or an unsafe condition.
Operates plant equipment as required (trucks, cranes, forklift, scissor and aerial lifts).
Perform maintenance, electrical, and electrical system tasks as directed by the Maintenance Manager during outage periods.
Environment, Health and Safety and General Work Requirements
Understands and complies with all applicable environmental, health and safety policies while conducting maintenance.
Maintains a safe working environment to include good housekeeping practices of work and shop areas.
Maintains mechanical, electrical and electronic systems and shop areas as assigned.
Participates in and contributes to plant safety meetings and programs. Presents various safety topics as assigned. Brings ideas for safety improvements forward. Documents all safety findings appropriately (near miss reporting, safety work orders, incident investigation participation, and safety improvement plan). Stops work and takes corrective action if an unsafe act is witnessed and escalates to management as appropriate. Enforces site safety rules and practices.
Adheres to the requirements of Process Safety Management and the Risk Management Program.
Supervises and supports contractors on-site when designated by the Maintenance Manager.
Participates in the upkeep of plant grounds as required (e.g., snow removal, walkway salting, lawn maintenance, etc.).
Perform other duties as assigned.
Skilled Knowledge
High school graduate + two years of trade or technical school with training in fundamentals of The Power Plant Cycle. Experience in mechanical/electric/electronic maintenance and instrumentation and control systems highly preferred.
At least 5 years' experience in a power plant with good working knowledge of power plant equipment.
Maintain First Aid & CPR Certification.
Technical Skills
Read and interpret complicated drawings, P&ID's, logic diagrams and blueprints.
Experience with electrical test equipment and instrumentation systems.
Highly skilled in repair, maintenance and installation of power plant equipment.
Certified Forklift Operator, elevated work platform, and perform daily scaffold inspections.
Must be proficient in Computerized Maintenance Management System (Maximo preferred).
Proficient in other computer technology and use of various computer based tools.
Should be familiar with Microsoft Office suite as well as time keeping, computer based training and other business software as needs and technology changes over time.
