The Richland‑Stryker Generation project comprises two peaking power plants. The Richland Peaking Plant, situated in Defiance, OH, features a robust power generation infrastructure with six units powered by natural gas as the primary fuel and distillate fuel oil (DFO) as a secondary option, collectively generating an impressive 450MW. The Stryker Peaking Plant in Stryker, OH, operates a single unit exclusively firing with distillate fuel oil, contributing 19MW to the energy landscape.

Opportunity Summary The O&M Technician will support operations and maintenance activities at the Richland Peaking Plant in Defiance, OH, and the Stryker Peaking Plant in Stryker, OH. Based primarily at the Richland Peaking Plant, this position plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation and maintenance of electrical, mechanical, and auxiliary systems across both facilities.

Responsibilities

Assist in the start‑up, shutdown, and normal operation of power plant systems, including turbines, generators, boilers, fuel handling systems, and auxiliary equipment.

Operate and monitor major auxiliary equipment, such as air compressors, demineralized water systems, chilled and cooling water systems, generator and transformer cooling systems, fuel pumps, conveyors, fans, and locally controlled electrical and mechanical apparatus.

Perform operational tests and inspections on turbines, pumps, motors, valves, and control systems, making minor repairs and adjustments to maintain proper operating conditions.

Execute orders from the Control Room Operator at isolated panels to clear, test, and prepare equipment for service in accordance with plant operating instructions and safety procedures, including tagging, lock‑out/tag‑out, and safety taping operations.

Maintain assigned logs for operational and maintenance activities, including equipment readings, abnormal conditions, and maintenance performed.

Observe and report abnormal or irregular conditions, taking corrective measures within the scope of standard operating procedures.

Assist during scheduled and unscheduled maintenance periods on mechanical and electrical equipment, including turbines, pumps, motors, generators, transformers, and control systems.

Support the use of the computerized maintenance management system (CMMS) by accurately entering data, generating work orders, and adhering to the facility’s maintenance philosophy.

Thoroughly document equipment issues in Maximo work requests and record all maintenance actions, repairs, and spare parts usage on work order forms.

Perform corrective and preventive maintenance on rotating equipment, electrical systems, instrumentation, and plant auxiliaries in a timely, safe, and high‑quality manner.

Read meters, gauges, and automatic devices to record parameters such as temperature, vibration, pressure, flow, and operating hours; visually inspect and listen to equipment to detect early signs of malfunction or wear.

Diagnose mechanical and electrical malfunctions in operational equipment, including pumps, fans, motors, turbines, generators, and fuel handling systems.

Repair, replace, dismantle, and examine defective parts, including bearings, shafts, seals, belts, valves, and couplings, while lubricating and cleaning components as required.

Use Fluke meters, oscilloscopes, and other test instruments to calibrate and troubleshoot plant instrumentation, electrical circuits, and protective devices.

Assist in troubleshooting and maintaining programmable logic controllers (PLCs), distributed control systems (DCS), and plant control systems, including control card replacement, wiring terminations, and system calibration.

Perform additional tasks as assigned by the Plant Manager to support safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.

Working Relationships The O&M Technician reports to the O&M Manager and coordinates with all other plant personnel to ensure safe and reliable plant operations.

Physical Requirements And Working Conditions Standing for extended periods, climbing stairs and ladders, working from elevated platforms and walkways at varying heights, and routinely lifting up to 50 pounds. Power‑plant environment may involve entering confined spaces, crawling through narrow areas, and handling hazardous materials, with exposure to fumes, extreme temperatures, and noise. Work may include high heat near equipment and varying outdoor weather conditions.

Fitness for Duty All personnel will participate in the Fitness for Duty Program, which includes a post‑offer physical examination, drug screening, and post‑employment random drug screening.

Work Schedule The O&M Technician works a standard Monday‑to‑Friday day shift schedule, ensuring consistent plant operation and support during regular business hours. The position may occasionally require extended hours and flexible shifts as needed, including weekends and holidays. Periodic callouts or “On‑call” status will also be required.

Compensation This position offers a base pay rate ranging from $34.18 to $60.38 per hour, along with an annual performance bonus.

Core Qualifications And Skills

Ability to understand procedures, instructions, and technical manuals related to plant operations, typically acquired through four years of high school. An associate degree in power plant technology, chemistry, or a related technical field, or engineering is preferred. Relevant industry or military experience may be considered in lieu of formal education.

Proven experience in technician roles within power generation, with hands‑on experience operating and maintaining combustion turbines and auxiliary systems, including startup, shutdown, and routine operations.

Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of aero‑derivative and industrial combustion turbine operations, electrical systems, process controls, and instrumentation, including inspection, monitoring, and recording of plant parameters.

Knowledge of industrial safety practices, environmental compliance, and hazardous waste management.

Experience reading and interpreting piping and instrument diagrams (P&IDs) and schematics is highly desirable.

Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS), specifically MAXIMO, for tracking work orders, maintenance activities, and equipment history.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to document equipment issues and maintenance actions clearly and accurately.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks effectively in a fast‑paced operational environment.

Must possess a valid, unrestricted U.S. driver’s license and ensure it remains in good standing at all times.
