Histology Technician/Technologist – Northern Arizona Dermatology Center, Flagstaff, Arizona 86001
Job description: Full time, M-F, day position (with some flexibility).
Northern Arizona Dermatology Center is seeking a histology technician in the beautiful mountain town of Flagstaff, Arizona.
We are a private dermatology practice run by physicians with no private equity involvement, a "small office feel," and a view of the majestic San Francisco Peaks from our laboratory window.
This team of Dermatology professionals takes great pride in creating a positive work environment for employees and a top quality experience for patients.
Duties
Preparation of tissue samples including grossing, processing, embedding and microtomy
Accurate labeling of cassettes, slides and slide labels
Filing slides and pulling slides pertaining to prior cases
Performing quality assurance checks
Verify slide and block match for each case
Verify slide quality under the microscope to ensure tissue preparation meets laboratory requirements
Submit any outside materials that are needed for review
Option to perform histochemistry (special stains) and immunohistochemistry stains
Operating and maintaining instruments used for tissue processing, paraffin embedding and sectioning of specimens
Maintaining QC/QA records
Maintaining documentation as required by CLIA guidelines
Recognize when troubleshooting is needed for processing, embedding, cutting, staining
Work in a fast-paced laboratory environment with biological and chemical hazards
Champion safety, compliance, and quality control
Option to perform Mohs micrographic surgery microtomy and staining (training provided if desired)
Required
At minimum, an associate of science degree with 24 credits of science, including 6 in chemistry and 6 in biology
Desired
1+ years of laboratory training or experience in a high volume laboratory with documented special stain and immunohistochemistry experience
HT or HTL ASCP accreditation preferred
Mohs experience preferred, but not required
