GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Mental Health Therapist (SPED) provides school counseling, behavioral and social-emotional services to Special Education students in grades K-12, including screening, assessment, individual and group counseling, and referrals to outside agencies as appropriate. They are a member of the IEP Team, helping plan, implement, and monitor student programs across school sites, contributing to a safe and positive school culture by partnering with staff and leadership. Mental Health Therapist Levels: Mental Health Therapist 1 (SPED):

Focus on professional development and clinical hour collection toward licensure. Mental Health Therapist 2 (SPED):

Focus on professional development and leadership toward becoming a clinical supervisor. Mental Health Therapist 3 (SPED):

Focus on professional development and leadership toward serving as a clinical supervisor for colleagues. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Demonstrate knowledge of Aspire mission, vision, equity commitments, values, policies, confidentiality, and ethical standards. Maintain up-to-date case files for caseload students in compliance with Aspire, BBS, state, and federal guidelines; honor mandated reporting duties. Communicate with Aspire staff about student clinical goals and progress. Provide crisis counseling and referrals, including risk assessment. Collaborate with general education counselors to implement MTSS, therapeutic interventions, goals, and data tracking. Develop and refine therapeutic prevention and intervention strategies across intervention tiers. Collaborate on universal interventions such as peer mediation, conflict mediation, restorative practices, SEL, and trauma-informed approaches. Work with families to plan student programming, including parent and staff education. Assist with IEP programming for students needing mental health and social-emotional supports: Assist in developing IEP goals related to mental health/SEL Progress monitor IEP goals using an online system Attend IEP meetings to report progress Collaborate with the IEP team on Functional Behavioral Assessments and Behavior Intervention Plans per IDEA. Support teachers with modeling, observing, coaching, and planning. Support students receiving ESA services requiring behavioral support per IEPs. Know child guidance principles for students with learning disabilities, developmental delays, and autistic-like behaviors. Track student behavioral data and progress toward goals. Handle emotionally charged situations with problem-solving and mediation techniques. Collaborate with the school psychologist and IEP team on Educationally Related Mental Health Services Assessments. Mental Health Counselor 2 & 3 (SPED):

Supervise trainees/interns and contribute to regional clinical professional development for Mental Health Therapists 1. Mental Health Counselor 3 (SPED):

Facilitate clinical supervision for licensure-seeking associates and provide crisis consultation as needed; coordinate supervision systems with leadership. QUALIFICATIONS

Required knowledge, skills & abilities: Commitment to students and learning. Experience with TK-12 students. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to write clearly and interact with diverse stakeholders. Strong organization, time management, and multitasking abilities. Ability to work as part of a team. Knowledge of intervention and prevention models (e.g., CBT, Play Therapy). Ability to adapt to new approaches and remain solution-oriented. Ability to handle obstacles positively. Minimum educational level: Bachelor’s Degree required Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, School Psychology, or related field Mental Health Therapist 1 (SPED): Registered Associate with BBS (AMFT, ASW, or APCC) or PPS credential/eligibility Mental Health Therapist 2 (SPED): Clinical Licensure through the BBS required Mental Health Therapist 3 (SPED): BBS licensure for 2+ years and supervision credentialing required Highly desirable qualifications: PPS credential Bilingual in Spanish Supervise BBS registered Associate Intern SPED (Mental Health Therapist 3 only) Compensation:
