General Summary

The Mental Health Therapist (SPED) provides a full range of school counseling, behavioral and social-emotional services to Special Education children in grades K-12, including screening and assessment, individual and group counseling, and coordination with outside agencies as appropriate. This role is an integral member of the IEP Team, helping to plan, implement, and monitor student programs across school sites. The therapist contributes to a safe, successful learning environment and positive school culture by partnering with teachers, administrators, staff, and Regional/Home Office teams. Aspire prioritizes professional development and leadership capacity building as they facilitate clinical supervision for colleagues. Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Demonstrate knowledge of and support Aspire Public Schools' mission, vision, equity commitments, values, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and code of ethical behavior. Maintain and update case files for students on caseload in accordance with Aspire, BBS, state, and federal guidelines, including mandated reporting duties. Provide positive, consistent communication with Aspire staff about student clinical goals and progress. Provide crisis counseling and referrals as needed, including risk assessment. Collaborate with general education counselors and staff to implement MTSS, therapeutic interventions, goals, and data tracking for all students. Develop and refine therapeutic preventions and interventions across intervention tiers to foster better mental health and positive learning environments. Collaborate with staff on universal interventions such as peer mediation, conflict mediation, Restorative Practices, SEL, and trauma-informed approaches. Engage with families to plan for student programming, including parent and staff education. Assist with IEP programming for students who require mental health/social-emotional supports, including: Assist in the development of IEP goals related to Mental Health/Social-Emotional needs Progress monitor IEP goals using an online IEP system Attend IEP meetings to report student progress Collaborate with the IEP team to conduct Functional Behavioral Assessments and to write, implement, and progress monitor Behavior Intervention Plans in accordance with IDEA. Support teachers (Ed Specialists and GE teachers) through modeling, observation, coaching, and planning. Provide support to students receiving Educationally Related Mental Health services requiring behavioral support per IEPs. Apply knowledge of child guidance principles, including for students with learning disabilities, development delays, and autistic-like behaviors. Assist IEP teams with systems to track student behavioral data and monitor progress toward goals. Handle emotionally charged situations using problem-solving and mediation techniques. Collaborate with the school psychologist and other IEP team members to assist with Educationally Related Mental Health Services Assessments. Mental Health Counselor 2 & 3 (SPED):

Supervise counseling trainees/interns and contribute to regional clinical professional development for Mental Health Therapists 1. Mental Health Counselor 3 (SPED):

Facilitate individual, triadic, and group clinical supervision for licensure-in California, provide crisis consultation for supervisees and site teams, and coordinate with Associate MHCs, Program Specialists, external supervisors, and leadership on supervision systems. Qualifications

Required knowledge, skills & abilities: Demonstrated commitment to students and learning. Experience with students TK-12. Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills; ability to write clearly and interact with diverse stakeholders. Strong organization, time management, and prioritization; ability to manage multiple cases concurrently. Ability to work as part of a team. Knowledge of intervention and prevention models for individuals and groups (e.g., CBT, Play therapy). Ability to adapt to new approaches and maintain a solutions-oriented mindset. Ability to handle obstacles positively. Ability to collaborate with IEP teams and track behavioral data. Minimum educational level: Bachelor’s Degree required Master’s Degree in Counseling, Social Work, School Psychology or related discipline Mental Health Therapist 1 (SPED): Registered Associate with BBS (AMFT, ASW, and/or APCC) Mental Health Therapist 2 (SPED): Clinical Licensure through the BBS required Mental Health Therapist 3 (SPED): Clinical Licensure through the BBS for 2+ years and certification to provide clinical supervision required Highly desirable qualifications: PPS credential Bilingual - Spanish Supervise BBS registered Associate Intern SPED (Mental Health Therapist 3 Only) Compensation: Aspire Public Schools offers a competitive base salary benchmarked against local districts and charter schools, plus benefits including paid time off, health coverage on select plans, life insurance/long-term disability, retirement plan participation, tuition reimbursement, and adoption assistance.
