About the Tahoe Rim Trail Association (TRTA) Since 1981, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association has championed recreation in the Tahoe Basin. Today, the TRTA maintains and enhances a world‑class 200‑mile trail system with over 700,000 annual users. The organization implements a variety of programming to teach users sustainable trail use practices, connect the public with the outdoors to create lifelong stewards, and mitigate the impacts of trail users on the landscape so everyone can enjoy the Tahoe Rim Trail today and in the future.
POSITION SUMMARY Reporting Structure: This role reports to the Outdoor Programs Director; supervises seasonal youth staff and collaborates with Development and Outreach teams to align program and fundraising goals.
Location: TRTA Office, Stateline, NV
ESSENTIAL DUTIES Program Development and Implementation (80%)
Manage the development, implementation, and delivery of TRTA youth programming.
Ensure all youth programs meet or exceed industry safety and risk management standards.
Cultivate and manage partnerships to reach youth who will most benefit from outdoor experiences, provide skilled instructors, and market youth programs, with support from the Outdoor Programs Director.
Oversee all youth program contracts, agreements, manuals, protocols, guidebooks, and parent permission forms with guidance from the Outdoor Programs Director.
Recruit, onboard, and supervise contracted and seasonal field staff to implement Youth Backcountry Camps with the support from the Outdoor Programs Director.
Implement an instructor training program for YBCC instructors and chaperones with the support of the Outdoor Programs Director.
Recruit, screen, and prepare participants and participant families.
Manage youth programs calendar and logistics, including shuttling, transportation, chaperones, and meals with an emphasis on peak season scheduling.
Maintain the TRTA’s youth programs gear inventory.
Ensure program administration is complete, including tracking participants in the TRTA database, tracking registrations, reporting on program income and expense, and maintaining program files.
Provide service‑learning programs to groups, youth, and families working with the Trail Operations Department.
Strategically evaluate opportunities to grow youth and family programming with support from the Outdoor Programs Director.
Emphasize TRTA’s commitment to diversity and inclusion by expanding youth program engagement with underserved and underrepresented communities.
Fundraising and Financial Management (10%)
Support the Outdoor Programs Director in creating and tracking the Youth Programs budget.
Support the Outdoor Programs Director in tracking and reporting on grants and assisting with donor acknowledgment efforts.
Marketing and Outreach (5%)
Represent the TRTA and engage with local environmental education and trail stewardship organizations to expand, market, and improve TRTA youth programs.
Work with the marketing team to promote youth programs through outreach channels.
Update Youth Program sections of the Tahoe Rim Trail website.
Implement unique learning experiences TRTA offers, such as immersive Tahoe Basin ecology education and skill‑building workshops for youth participants.

QUALIFICATIONS Experience and Educational Background
Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field such as Outdoor Education, Recreation Management, Youth Development, or a related discipline or equivalent work history.
3‑5 years of experience preferred in youth program management or relevant field, focusing on outdoor and experiential education.
Proven success in designing, coordinating, and leading backpacking or outdoor programs for teens, particularly from under‑resourced backgrounds.
Program Development and Outdoor Leadership
Proficient in outdoor skills such as navigation, wilderness first aid, Leave No Trace principles, campsite management, and basic ecology, geology, and natural/cultural history.
Demonstrated ability to lead groups safely and positively in outdoor environments.
Experience developing engaging, educational itineraries for diverse youth populations.
Strong understanding of outdoor risk management, emergency response, and crisis procedures.
Relevant certifications preferred: Leave No Trace Trainer, Wilderness First Responder, Mental Health First Aid, CPR.
Community Engagement
Demonstrated ability to engage diverse communities, including those facing socio‑economic challenges.
Experience collaborating with schools, organizations, and community leaders to expand program reach.
Leadership, Team Management, and Communication
Strong leadership and mentoring skills with experience supervising seasonal or instructional staff.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills for participants, families, staff, funders, and the public.
Ability to problem‑solve and adapt to changing circumstances in dynamic outdoor environments.
Financial and Administrative
Experience managing contracts, agreements, and compliance for program activities.
Strong organizational and record‑keeping skills.
Ability to clear and timely reports on program outcomes and impact.
Additional Requirements
Passion for working with youth fostering personal growth, leadership, and resilience through outdoor experiences.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
Ability to pass a criminal background check and meet driving eligibility standards, including a current DMV report.
Ability to drive a 15‑passenger van and tow an 8‑foot utility trailer.
Ability to work a variable schedule, including weekends and extended hours during peak summer season, sometimes at a desk with a computer and phone for up to ten hours daily.
Ability to hike and camp for multiple days, covering up to 20 miles while carrying up to 55 lbs.
Comfortable working in diverse weather conditions and terrain.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Salary will be commensurate with experience, ranging from $55k‑$65k annually (adjusted for a 10‑month schedule).
