If yes, you might be our next Youth Program Manager! Climate Generation ignites and sustains the ability of youth, educators, and communities to act on systems perpetuating the climate crisis. Based in the Twin Cities, Minnesota, Climate Generation strategically engages and empowers youth, educators, decision-makers, and the public to foster climate literacy and action with the goal of building a more equitable and resilient future for all. Duties and responsibilities:
The Youth Program Manager leads Climate Generation’s Minnesota-based Youth Programs that engage teens in the youth climate movement through leadership development, education, collaboration, advocacy, and action. Program Support (60%) Lead the planning and delivery of high-quality youth climate activism programming that is grounded in quality youth development, experiential learning, youth autonomy and leadership, and climate justice principles. This includes weekly meetings, retreats, the annual Youth Climate Justice Summit, and participation in national and international youth climate activist events and spaces. Lead outreach and recruitment strategies and efforts. Work collaboratively with Programs Coordinator, Youth Climate Justice Coordinator and Policy Manager on all programming planning and delivery. Develop relationships with youth participants and provide mentorship. Develop annual work plans and calendars for self and team. Model the organization’s guiding principles within and throughout program offerings. Lead program evaluation frameworks and practices, including collection of data Apply a continuous quality improvement and learning organization lens to growing and adapting approaches. Participate in the development of annual budget; monitor budget and expenses monthly, accounting for variances and adapting in real time. Supervision (10%) Provide supervision to youth program coordinators that is grounded in coaching and learning, with clear expectations and shared accountability. Communications (5%) Generate content for monthly e-news and Climate Generation’s blog on a regular basis. Solicit and support blogs, op-eds, and social media engagement from youth leaders for YEA! and Climate Generation visibility across media channels. Support youth and coordinators engaging on YEA! social channels like Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and BlueSky. Partner with the communications team to ensure programs collateral is brand consistent, current, and available for outreach opportunities. Organizational Health (15%) Engage in team functions, including internal events, team meetings, and strategic planning. Participate in cross-organization planning groups as skills, knowledge, and capacity align. Use internal communication tools to collaborate with the full team (Google Suite, Slack, Zoom, Asana). Travel to and attend general Climate Generation events in as supportive a capacity as applicable. Collaborate with colleagues to ensure that an equity and anti-racism framework is used to develop and deliver all YEA! and youth programs as aligned with the organization’s guiding principles. Seek opportunities to grow professionally and encourage pthe rofessional development of supervised staff. Resource Development (5%) Support the development team in identifying funding opportunities, contributing to the co-drafting of narratives, participating in site visits, events and donor stewardship opportunities as relevant. Stakeholder relationships (5%) Build positive trust based relationships with community partner organisations, individuals and educators. Required Qualifications:
5 years experience in youth leadership development and/or youth organizing roles. 1 year experience in a supervisory role. Commitment to antiracism with experience in racially and geographically diverse communities. Understanding of the root causes of the climate crisis. Passion for climate justice and the different ways that people power can create change. Ability to communicate intersectional concepts for multiple learners at different levels of understanding. Ability to navigate conflict and adapt to challenges. Ability to work collaboratively and creatively with a small and dedicated team and facilitate collaborative spaces Demonstrated ability to build trusted and authentic relationships with youth and partners. Comfortable with technology or ability to learn, including Zoom, Google Suite, Slack, Every Action, and Canva. Ability to work some evenings and weekends. Committed to an equitable workplace and integrating antiracism into program planning and operations. Experience with program evaluation and continuous quality improvement strategies. Preferred Qualifications:
Demonstrated proficiency in experiential learning design. Experience with the YPQA framework. Campaign and/or issue-based community organizing experience. Event planning (Summit, retreats, etc.) experience and know-how. Compensation and Benefits:
0.80 FTE Salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, ranging from $48,000 (28.85/hour) to $49,438 (29.71/hour), with additional benefits valued at $5,700. Climate Generation offers generous paid time off (20 days in first year of service), 10 paid holidays (including 3 floating holidays), 1 week ‘end of year’ paid time off, 6 weeks of paid family leave, medical, dental, group life, cell and internet monthly stipend, and a Simple IRA plan that is fossil fuel free.
