The South Asian, Southwest Asian, and North African (SSWANA) Student Development Office supports undergraduate and graduate student needs, creates academic, community, and social opportunities, and fosters understanding of SSWANA and intersectional identities. SSWANA collaborates with the Centers for Educational Justice and Community Engagement to promote student success through intersectional and multicultural practices. Position Summary
Reporting to the SSWANA Director, the Assistant Director coordinates a multi‑faceted program and community space that serves multiple constituencies through advising, program development, training, workshops, and resource guides. Application Review Date

Multicultural Advising
Provides advice about academic and personal development resources to students engaged in ethnic specific, multicultural, and/or cross‑cultural studies, programs, services, and organizations. Refers students to appropriate campus and community services. Program & Space Management
Plans, develops, and implements programs, services, activities, and strategies that promote critical dialogue and social change around multiculturalism, campus climate, and equity and inclusion. Works with student groups on planning multicultural and community events, coordinating staffing and logistics. Ensures safety, security, and risk management are addressed. Mentors and develops student staff on event management and procedures. Assesses program effectiveness and recommends changes aligned with office goals. Recommends new activities and programs. Coordinates content, editing, and publication of newsletters, website, brochures, and publicity materials; assists in preparing proposals for extramural funding. Manages day‑to‑day operations of the SSWANA Office, including staffing, inventory, schedule, and maintenance. Student Leadership Development
Supports hiring, training, mentoring, and supervising student coordinators and interns in partnership with the Director. Facilitates collaborative group processes using innovative pedagogical and culturally informed models. Facilitates seminars to promote academic success, personal development, and leadership formation for the SSWANA Living and Learning Community and SSWANA Internship. Plans and leads workshops focused on student success and leadership. Collaborative Relationships
Develops and maintains relationships with stakeholders on and off campus critical to program success. Promotes collaborations among student, staff, faculty, and community constituencies interested in social justice, equity, and inclusion. Serves as a liaison with other programs and organizations on and off campus under the Director’s direction. Professional Development
Keeps abreast of evolving trends in SSWANA, multicultural education, and student development theories. Required Qualifications
Knowledge of multiculturalism, student development, and leadership development theories. Proficiency in collaborative, student‑centered teaching/learning models, facilitation, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy. Knowledge of issues facing low‑income, underrepresented, multiracial, multi-ethnic, mixed‑race, LGBTQIA+ students, including SSSWANA populations. Experience collecting and analyzing data and generating reports. Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student, staff, and faculty communities. Highly developed interpersonal and public communication skills, conflict management, and intervention strategies. Comprehensive knowledge of multicultural event planning, campus‑community relations, and event production. Ability to analyze complex situations, develop solutions, and administer programs that meet diverse student needs. Experience working with SSWANA youth. Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience/training. Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree or equivalent experience/training. Two to three years of professional experience in a related area. Salary & Benefits
