Position Summary The Department of Statistics and Operations Research (STOR) invites applications for a non‑tenure‑track position at the rank of Teaching Assistant Professor or Teaching Associate Professor in Actuarial Science. The successful candidate will deliver engaging instruction in introductory service and actuarial science courses, incorporate effective teaching practices and technology‑enhanced learning, and contribute to the department’s instructional programs and pedagogical initiatives. The position begins with a three‑year contract (five years if hired as a Teaching Associate Professor) and offers opportunities for promotion and longer‑term appointments.
Primary Responsibilities
Teach six undergraduate courses across the academic year (two semesters), including large‑enrollment introductory service courses and actuarial science courses.
Develop and implement engaging instructional materials and assessments.
Practice effective teaching techniques, including the use of technology and methods for large classes.
Provide academic advising and mentoring to undergraduate students majoring in Statistics and Analytics and enrolled in Actuarial Science courses.
Participate actively in departmental life, including committee service, support of departmental initiatives, and collaborative projects.
Take on additional teaching assignments during the summer as available, with separate compensation.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Doctorate (Ph.D.) in Statistics, Mathematics, Operations Research, or a closely related field by the start date of the appointment.
Actuarial credential such as ASA, ACAS, FSA, or FCAS; candidates making significant progress toward a credential are encouraged to apply.
Demonstrated excellence or strong potential in teaching actuarial principles, mathematics, statistics, and operations research.
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Comfortable with teaching large‑enrollment introductory service courses.
Experience with technology‑enhanced learning strategies.
Ability to advise and mentor undergraduate students in Statistics and Analytics.
