About the Role The Licensed Doctorate-Level Psychologist will serve as the lead mental health provider supporting the Seneca County Sheriff's Office (SCSO) personnel and their families. This role provides confidential and privileged psychological services, focusing on trauma response, crisis intervention, peer-support development, and mental-wellness counseling. The psychologist will work directly with law enforcement staff following critical incidents, provide ongoing counseling and support programs, and assist in building a sustainable culture of wellness within the department. The role requires an experienced clinician with strong crisis-response skills and an understanding of law-enforcement culture.

Key Responsibilities

Provide critical incident debriefings and post-incident counseling for deputies and affected personnel.

Deliver immediate support to staff involved in shootings, fatalities, suicides, or other traumatic events.

Conduct individual counseling sessions for SCSO employees and their families addressing stress, trauma, marital, family, and substance-use concerns.

Perform mental wellness assessments, reintegration planning, and ongoing therapeutic support after critical events.

Offer crisis management and intervention services, including psychological debriefings for individuals and teams.

Develop, train, and supervise the Peer Support and Wellness Program.

Provide consultative guidance to command staff and supervisors on mental health and crisis management.

Support ongoing employee wellness initiatives, including stress management, resilience training, and preventative interventions.

Coordinate with county leadership to adapt programs as emerging mental health needs evolve.

Maintain all communications as privileged and confidential under NYS psychologist standards.

Ensure adherence to all ethical, professional, and legal requirements in accordance with APA and NYS licensing laws.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Psychology (Required).

Active New York State Psychologist License (Required).

Minimum of 3-5 years of clinical experience, preferably working with law enforcement, first responders, or trauma populations.

Expertise in crisis response, trauma-informed counseling, and peer-support program development.

Strong knowledge of confidentiality standards and law-enforcement culture.

Excellent interpersonal, communication, and debriefing skills.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience providing mental health services in police, fire, or military environments.

Background in critical incident stress management (CISM) or psychological first aid.

Prior leadership or supervisory experience overseeing peer-support or wellness programs.

Availability for on-call or after-hours crisis support.
