Classification Title : Biological Scientist I - Mouse manager, maintenance and breeding of mice

Expected Salary : $19.16 - $22.03 per hour (commensurate with qualifications and experience)

Responsibilities

Organize, maintain, and breed mice for experimental cohorts – including husbandry, setting up mating cages, weaning pups, sampling, and monitoring health.

Perform genomic DNA isolation, genotyping by PCR and Southern blot analysis, and shipment of mice and samples to collaborators.

Maintain meticulous records of experimental cohorts.

Participate in lab research, providing technical assistance to ongoing projects and analyzing results.

Assist with characterization of behavioral and molecular phenotypes in transgenic mice.

Collect tissues for DNA, RNA, protein, and histological analysis including FISH, IHC, and IF.

Oversee lab equipment use and maintenance, track and order supplies, and ensure biosafety and environmental health compliance.

Participate in and present work at lab meetings; respond to animal facility technicians to resolve reported problems.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related life science field.

Preferred Qualifications

2-4 years of education and work experience related to the job with interest in human genetic disease, molecular biology, or mouse models.

More than 3 years of experience managing large mouse colonies.

Experience with genotyping and dissection of mice.

Extensive experience in handling, assessment, and treatment of mice.
