Minimum Qualifications/Required Skills
Current and Valid Illinois Speech Language Pathologist Teaching or Non-Teaching Endorsement. Master’s degree required from a program accredited by the American Speech-Language Association. Able to perform duties with awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.
Responsibilities/Duties
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Provide support services to elementary school students. Coordinates or serves as a member of a diagnostic team and educational planning and placement committee. Serves as a resource to school staff members in the development of a balance program for oral communication and speech improvement. Collaborates with classroom teachers and other school staff members to implement therapy suggestions for student’s daily activities. Assists and guides teachers in observing, describing and referring suspected and identified speech and language impairments. Perform casework services with parents as an integral part of assisting students. Increase parents understanding and participation in resolving their child’s needs and informing them of appropriate resources available. Responsible for writing and implementing individual education plans and have familiarity with response to intervention. Ability to make home visits for the purpose of gathering information on a student’s background and needed interventions. Maintain accurate and timely records for the purpose of monitoring student progress. Assesses student progress towards targets and standards for the purpose of providing feedback to students, parents and administration throughout the learning process. Communicates and collaborates with instructional staff, school personnel, parents and a variety of community resources for the purpose of improving the overall quality of student outcomes. Understanding of various formal and informal assessment strategies and uses them to support the continuous development of students. Perform such other appropriate duties as may be assigned by the building Principal.
