Overview

Virginia Western Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education operating under the Virginia Community College System, a statewide system of community colleges. The College operates under the policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Virginia Western Community College Local Advisory Board. Virginia Western is located on a 70-acre campus in southwest Roanoke, VA. The service region of the College includes Roanoke, Salem, Roanoke County, Craig County, Franklin County, and southern Botetourt County. The College was established in 1966 and has grown from an initial enrollment of 1,352 to its current annual enrollment of over 9,000 students in credit courses and more than 1,400 enrollments in fast-track workforce and continuing education courses. Virginia Western Community College, located in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains of the Roanoke Valley, is accepting applications for part-time Radiation Oncology clinical instructors in the School of Health Professions. Responsibilities

Instruct at local hospital/medical center facilities for at least 8 students per day for two or three days a week (no nights or weekends), 7:30 a.m.–3:30 p.m. Evaluate students’ performance during radiation therapy procedures. Evaluate students’ knowledge of image matching. Observe and instruct equipment manipulation; provide setup instruction as needed. Serve as liaison between the college’s radiation oncology program and the radiation oncology department. Maintain currency in the discipline and stay current with trends in community college education. May be required to perform other duties as assigned and may assist the agency or state government in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor. Qualifications

Must possess, at a minimum, an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Radiation Oncology. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) certification or equivalent with continuing educational compliance. Two years of clinical experience in the professional discipline. Proficiency in supervision, instruction, and evaluation. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills; ability to work with students of varying abilities from diverse backgrounds.
