Conduct research in lab focused on the molecular basis of plant-nematode interactions. Identify nematode genes important for parasitism and overcoming host plant resistance; characterize host target genes essential for compatibility and resistance. Handle and analyze genomic and/or transcriptomic datasets; clone candidate plant and nematode genes; use molecular and genetic approaches to characterize gene function in nematode parasitism in crop and model plant systems. (70%) Care for plants and/or pathogen cultures required for research experiments, including planting, watering, and harvesting seed and propagating nematode cultures. (5%) Collect and analyze data from experiments, including collaboration with the PI. (10%) Write and report research results in written and oral formats; prepare periodic research updates and reports for granting agencies in collaboration with the PI. (5%) Present results to the scientific community at local, national, and international meetings. (5%) Supervise student workers and provide mentorship to undergraduate researchers under the guidance of the PI. (5%) Position Summary

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, Certification:
PhD in molecular nematology, molecular plant-microbe interactions, plant molecular biology/genetics, plant development, or related field within the past 4 years Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies:
Demonstrated knowledge and research experience in molecular plant-microbe interactions, plant and/or nematode molecular biology and genetics. Preferred candidates will have experience with statistical and bioinformatics analyses and plant transformation in crop or model systems. A publication record in peer-reviewed journals, proficiency in written and spoken English, and ability to work independently and on interdisciplinary teams are desired. Physical Demands
